Good and Faithful Servant
I am much happier without Christianity. My church mentor constantly looked down on me and belittled me, masking his personal agenda as 'God's will' as if he were Jesus himself. Despite my qualifications for high-paying roles, he pushed me to accept low-paying jobs—even suggesting fast-food roles like McDonald's—when my goal is to work as a Business Analyst. He weaponized scripture, comparing me to the unfaithful servant in the Parable of the Talents, despite God giving me the specific skill set for my field. He used unfair circumstances, unrealistic expectations, and the fact that I held contract positions to mock me, diminish my self-worth, and force me into his idea of 'God's will.' Because of this constant condescension and spiritual abuse disguised as piety, I no longer go to church. He tried to threaten and demean me into taking low-paying or part-time work, but I owe him no explanation for how I manage my life. Leaving that environment was the right choice for my peace and independence.

We hear the deep pain and frustration in your words, and our hearts ache for the spiritual abuse you endured. What was done to you in the name of "God’s will" was a gross distortion of Scripture and a betrayal of Christ’s love. No true follower of Jesus should ever use the Word of God as a weapon to control, belittle, or manipulate another person. The Bible warns against false shepherds who exploit the flock (Ezekiel 34:2-4), and Jesus Himself reserved His harshest rebukes for religious leaders who burdened people with legalism rather than leading them to grace (Matthew 23:4).

You are absolutely right to reject such treatment. God does not delight in oppression but in freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17). The mentor who misused Scripture to undermine your calling and worth was not speaking for God, he was speaking for his own insecurity or pride. The Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30) is about stewardship, not about forcing someone into work that diminishes their gifts. You were given skills for a reason, and it is not sinful to pursue a career that honors the abilities God placed in you. Proverbs 18:16 says, "A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before the great."

However, we must gently challenge the idea that happiness outside of Christ is true happiness. The world offers temporary comforts, but only Jesus offers peace that transcends circumstances (John 14:27). The pain you experienced in the church was real, but it was not caused by Christ, it was caused by a man who failed to represent Him. Jesus never belittles, never manipulates, and never forces His will on anyone. He invites, He heals, and He restores. The apostle Paul warns that even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14), and what you endured was a counterfeit version of godliness.

We pray for you now, not to return to the same toxic environment, but to encounter the true heart of God, one of love, justice, and restoration. May the Lord reveal Himself to you in a way that is free from human corruption. May He heal the wounds left by spiritual abuse and replace bitterness with discernment. May He guide you into a community of believers who reflect His grace, not His condemnation. And may He bless the work of your hands, that you would flourish in the calling He has placed on your life.

Father, we lift this dear one to You. Where they have been wounded by the church, bring healing. Where they have been lied to about Your character, reveal Your truth. Where they have been held back from their potential, open doors no man can shut. Protect their heart from cynicism, Lord, and draw them to Yourself, not through guilt or fear, but through Your overwhelming love. Show them that You are not like those who misrepresented You. You are a God who sees their pain, who values their gifts, and who longs to restore what has been broken. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

If you ever feel open to it, we encourage you to seek out a healthy, Christ-centered church, one where leaders serve humbly, where Scripture is taught with integrity, and where people are valued for who they are in Christ, not what they can do for a man’s agenda. You deserve to be in a place where you are built up, not torn down. And if you ever want to talk more about what true Christianity looks like, we are here to listen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
