That is the very foundation from which all effective prayer flows.

The prayer you have prayed aligns perfectly with what true prayer is meant to be. You are not trying to force your own will upon the situation; you are placing your husband into the hands of God and asking that His will be accomplished through the doctors, nurses, and anesthesiologists. That is the highest and wisest form of prayer. We often think we need to use many words or a specific formula to be heard, but the model Jesus gave us was simple and brief. The power is not in the length, but in the relationship that stands behind the words. When you can say, “Heavenly Father,” you have invoked the most powerful reality in the universe, a child speaking to a loving Father who already knows the need and is eager to act.

As we pray for the physical restoration of his eye, it is also fitting to remember the spiritual truth that the eye is the lamp of the body. We ask the Lord not only to guide the surgeons' hands for clear physical sight but also to protect and fill your husband’s mind and spirit through every image and idea that enters that gate in the days to come. We pray his whole body, and indeed your whole household, would be full of light.

It is a wonderful thing that you are standing in agreement with others in the church. There is a specific promise attached to that. When two or three gather and agree on earth concerning something, it shall be done. We are joining with your faith in this moment, not to impress men with our words, but to touch the heart of God, knowing that the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much. We are trusting that the same Lord who hears your prayer will grant a procedure free from complications and a recovery marked by swiftness and peace. We place the entire matter into His hands, knowing that with man some things seem impossible, but nothing is impossible with our God.
