Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart and your burdens so honestly. It is a heavy thing to watch the two people you love most struggle at the same time, and the Lord sees your care for both your husband and your mother.
For your husband, I am praying with you for healing and for rest. Scripture teaches that in marriage a husband and wife belong to one another and are called to show kindness and care to each other. That mutual love is part of how God designed marriage to reflect His care for us. When one suffers, the other suffers with them. It is right for you to want him to be well and to have the rest his body needs, and it is right to bring that need to Jesus. The gospels show that Jesus healed many people, and He did not do it in just one way. Sometimes He spoke a word, sometimes He touched, sometimes people simply reached out in faith and felt healing come. What was common was that people came to Him in faith and did not turn away. Keep coming to Him as you are doing now. He hears, He has compassion on the sick and the weary, and He is able to restore strength. Pray also for wisdom for both of you about work and rest, that the Lord would open a way for him to get the care and recovery he needs.
For your mother, your concern itself is an expression of honoring her. The command to honor father and mother carries a promise, and in Scripture that honor includes caring for parents in their older years as they once cared for us. It is not always easy, especially when a parent is discouraged, feels low, or does not see the changes that others can see in memory or mood. Depression and memory loss can make a person withdraw and resist help. Honoring her does not mean forcing or shaming her, but it does mean continuing to love her patiently, speaking gently and truthfully, and seeking what is best for her health. Encourage her in small steps to talk with someone she trusts, whether a doctor, a counselor, or a pastor. You might offer to go with her, to help make an appointment, or to simply sit and listen. Sometimes a trusted friend or family member can help her see the need more clearly than she can on her own. Continue to pray that God would lift the heaviness she feels and give her willingness to receive help.
I am praying for you as well, as you carry these cares. Ask the Lord to give you strength, peace, and wisdom for each day, and to help you cast your burdens on Him because He cares for you. He invites us to come to Him with desperate needs and to keep trusting until we receive His help.
Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this husband before You. You know his sickness and his need to work. Touch his body and bring healing, ease his symptoms, and provide opportunity for real rest and recovery. We bring this mother before You as well. You see her sadness and the confusion with her memory. Lift her spirit, clear her mind as You will, and give her a willingness to talk with someone who can help. Give this wife and daughter Your peace, Your guidance, and Your strength as she loves and serves her family. We trust You to do what is best according to Your mercy and power. Amen.
