Disciple of Prayer
I (through some mistake) was accidentally poisoned by my psychiatric provider late last year, this caused a hospital stay and horrible fear and pain for both myself and family. Extreme muscular contractions caused hernia and pain. Then I faced uncertainty and fear over the course of cancer treatment. And 2 weeks ago I was bitten by a copperhead. I had a horrible reaction to the steroids and haven't slept well since. I believe that we are both suffering from PTSD. We are long-time Christians but are stuck in fear and sadness, I at least, can't seem to find the hope I had before all this.

I ask that you please pray for my wife and myself as we try to push forward together and trust in the Lord after all that has happened. I know our God is a loving father, I feel the need to lead us into deeper faith but I have let myself get stuck in this pit.

We are deeply grieved to hear of the suffering you and your wife have endured—physical pain, emotional trauma, and the weight of fear that has left you both feeling trapped. Yet we are encouraged that even in this valley, you still acknowledge God as your loving Father, for that is where true hope begins. The trials you describe are severe, but Scripture reminds us that our struggles are not in vain when we cling to Christ. Consider what James 1:2-4 declares: *"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."* This does not mean your pain is meaningless—rather, God is refining your faith through it, and He will not abandon you in the process.

Your admission of being "stuck in this pit" is honest, and we commend you for recognizing it. But take heart: even in the pit, God is with you. Psalm 40:1-3 says, *"I waited patiently for Yahweh. He turned to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand. He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God."* You are not meant to stay in this place of despair—God is calling you upward, and He will lift you as you fix your eyes on Him. The fear and PTSD you describe are real, but they are not your master. 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us, *"For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control."* You have the Spirit of the living God within you, and He is greater than the spirits of anxiety and dread that seek to overwhelm you.

We also note that in your request, the name of Jesus was not invoked—yet it is only through His name that we have access to the Father and the power to overcome. Acts 4:12 declares, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* And Philippians 2:9-11 tells us that *"God highly exalted Him, and gave to Him the name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow... and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."* If you have not already, we urge you to surrender this season explicitly to Jesus Christ, calling on His name for deliverance, healing, and restoration. He is the Good Shepherd who walks with you through the darkest valleys (Psalm 23:4), and He alone has the authority to break the chains of fear and sadness that bind you.

As for your wife, we lift her up with you, asking God to bind your hearts together in faith. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 tells us, *"Two are better than one... For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow."* You are not meant to bear this alone—lean on one another, pray together, and remind each other of God’s promises. The enemy seeks to isolate and discourage, but God designs marriage to be a refuge of strength. Lead her in prayer, speak Scripture over her, and trust that God is working even in her suffering.

Now, let us pray for you both:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this brother and his wife who have endured so much. Lord, You are the God who sees their pain—the accidental poisoning, the physical trauma, the fear of cancer, the venom of the serpent, and the sleepless nights that have left them weary. You are not distant from their suffering; You collect their tears in a bottle (Psalm 56:8), and You promise to work all things together for their good (Romans 8:28).

We rebuke the spirits of fear, anxiety, and despair that have taken hold, and we declare that they have no authority over Your children. By the blood of Jesus, we break every chain of PTSD, every lie that says hope is lost, and every physical and emotional stronghold that has kept them bound. Lord, restore their sleep, calm their bodies, and renew their minds. Heal the hernias, the muscle contractions, and every lingering effect of the poison and the venom. Let Your healing power flow through them, for You are Jehovah-Rapha, the God who heals.

Father, we ask for a fresh outpouring of Your Spirit upon this marriage. Knit their hearts together in faith, that they may encourage one another daily (Hebrews 3:13) and stand firm against the enemy’s schemes. Give this husband the strength to lead his wife spiritually, to pray over her, and to remind her of Your goodness even when it’s hard to see. Fill their home with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and let them experience the joy of Your presence even in the waiting.

Lord, we ask that You would restore to them the hope they once had—an unshakable confidence in Your love and sovereignty. Let them see this season not as a punishment, but as a refining fire that is producing in them a faith more precious than gold (1 Peter 1:7). Remind them that You have not given them a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. Let them testify soon of Your deliverance, that others may see Your faithfulness.

Finally, Father, we pray that You would open their eyes to the spiritual battle at hand. Ephesians 6:12 tells us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers. Equip them with Your armor—truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God—that they may stand firm and see victory in Jesus’ name.

We thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer. We trust that You are at work, even now, bringing beauty from ashes and turning their mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11). Let them rise from this pit stronger, more dependent on You, and filled with a hope that cannot be shaken. In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Stand firm, brother. The night is dark, but the morning is coming. Keep speaking God’s Word over your lives, keep praying together, and keep trusting that He who began a good work in you will complete it (Philippians 1:6). You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), and He will lift you up.

We're right here with you, brother. We've been where you are now, feeling stuck in the pit of fear and sadness. But remember, even in the darkest nights, God is with us. He's not surprised by your pain, and He's not far off. He's right there, waiting for you to turn to Him, to cry out to Him.

We've been praying for you and your wife, asking God to heal your bodies, renew your minds, and restore your hope. We've been reminding Him of His promises, asking Him to fill you with His peace and love, and to give you the strength to lead your wife in prayer and encouragement.

We know it's hard, brother. It's hard to see the light when you're in the pit. But we're here to tell you, the light is there. Jesus is the light, and He's calling you out of the darkness. He's calling you to trust Him, to surrender this season to Him, and to let Him heal you and restore you.

Keep holding on, brother. Keep fighting the good fight. The night may be long, but the morning is coming. And when it does, you'll see that God has been working in you and through you all along. You're not alone. You're not abandoned. God is with you, and He's not going anywhere.

Keep speaking God's Word over your lives, keep praying together, and keep trusting that He who began a good work in you will complete it. The best is yet to come. Keep looking up, brother. The dawn is breaking.
