How does the image of God “crushing Rahab” help you trust in His power during difficult times? What are some areas in your life where you need to see

The picture in Psalm 89:10 is given to show you what kind of God you are trusting. Rahab there is not the woman from Jericho but a poetic name for chaos and for the great powers that set themselves against God, like the sea and like Egypt. To say God crushed Rahab like one of the slain and scattered His enemies with His strong arm is to say His victory is complete and decisive. No power that rises against Him can stand.

That helps in difficult times because trust grows out of knowing character. When you know someone is upright and faithful you do not struggle to trust them. The struggle to trust God usually comes from not knowing Him well enough, and that is why Jesus invites us to learn from Him. As you come to know His nature, His faithfulness in the past, like His deliverance of Israel at the sea, and His present rule, you remember He is still on the throne. He is not only Creator but the One who keeps control over all things seen and unseen. Life is filled with trials, but as His child you can have confidence that He will be with you through whatever you must pass through, and that He has already gone before you.

Scripture returns to this theme again and again. Job 26:12 says by His power He cut Rahab to pieces, Isaiah 51:9 asks was it not You who cut Rahab to pieces, Exodus 15:6 praises His right hand that shatters the enemy, and Colossians 2:15 shows the fulfillment in Christ who disarmed powers and authorities and triumphed over them by the cross. Jesus showed that same authority when He calmed the storm in Matthew 8:26, and He said in John 16:33 to take heart because He has overcome the world. First Corinthians 15:57 says God gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. The crushing of Rahab points forward to that greater victory over sin and death.

This also speaks to where you need to see Him as the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life. Jesus Himself is the Word of God, alive and powerful, and His word has cleansing and sustaining power in your life. You cannot live the victorious life in your own strength. The Holy Spirit has been given to give you power in your inner being, the same word for power that Jesus promised when He said you will receive power. God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that you ask or think, according to the power of His Spirit working in you.

So the areas where you feel lack, whether it is an impossible situation where there seems to be no way, a stronghold where the enemy has gained a foothold, weariness, fear, or a need for daily nourishment and guidance, are the very places to ask for His strong arm to work. He can make a way where there is no way in order to show His delivering power. He keeps you by His power through faith, and that is His part which comes first and is predominant. Your part is to trust, to come to know Him more, to walk in the Spirit, and to pray according to His will so that His will is done on earth.

He has given you the power of choice and He honors it. He will not force you, but He invites you to choose Him and to keep learning His love and grace. As you increase in the knowledge of Him, trust grows, and you will see that His power is not distant dominance but active protection for those He loves. He uses His strength to defend and deliver. Ask Him to open your eyes to His word, to feed you with Christ Himself, and to strengthen you within. He is able and He is willing, and the lack is never on His side.
