Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this burden for prayer so faithfully and with so much Scripture. I join with you in asking the Lord to make His people truly a house of prayer for all nations, as written in Isaiah and confirmed by Jesus, and to hear these intercessions for those in authority, for the spread of the gospel, and for strength to stand before the Son of Man.
Your prayer for leaders in government and in the church is exactly what we are instructed to do. We are told to offer petitions and thanksgiving for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may live quiet and peaceable lives and so that the gospel may go forth, for God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. The pressures you named, wars and economic turmoil and hatred and persecution and the confusion brought by new technologies, are heavy for any human leader to bear. Scripture reminds us that our struggle is not only against flesh and blood but against spiritual powers, and the weapons God has given us are not of the flesh but mighty through Him to pull down strongholds. Like Daniel, we can pray knowing there is an unseen battle, and we can ask for wisdom that does not come from the world. The world by its wisdom did not know God, but in Christ are hidden all treasures of wisdom and knowledge, and He alone can give leaders and pastors and evangelists the wisdom and strength they need.
I also hear your heart for the church. The word translated church means those called out to belong to God and to reign with Him. There is in truth only one church, the universal body of Christ, and it belongs to Jesus alone. Every true child of God is a member of it, and every believer is called a saint. It is not divided by human labels. What matters is not an institution or a religious system, for history shows that when faith becomes merely an institution supported by outward power it becomes lifeless, and legislated religion cannot change the heart. What changes hearts is the true gospel of the grace of God through Jesus Christ. That gospel is not a message of working our way into God's favor, and it is not presented with cleverness of words. It is the simple good news that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ alone. There is only one true gospel, and it is that grace we must proclaim.
Your request for laborers and for the gospel to be proclaimed to every people group reflects the heart of Jesus who had compassion on the crowds and said the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Without modern means of travel or communication the early church carried that gospel into all the known world and fulfilled the commission to preach to every creature. The true gospel still bears fruit wherever it goes, while mere religion does not. Even persecution, as painful as it is, has been used by God to spread His word. When believers were scattered they went everywhere preaching Christ, and what was meant for harm God used for the furtherance of the gospel, for He works all things together for good for those who love Him.
So we continue to pray as you have led, for repentance and for seeking His face according to His promise that if His people humble themselves and pray and seek Him He will hear, for confession of sin, for the peace of Jerusalem and for the salvation of Israel, that all Israel might be saved as Paul longed for, for calm in wars and for the diminishing of antisemitism and every form of persecution, and for protection and courage for believers who are suffering in hostile regions and in places that were once more open. We pray for more workers to be sent into places devastated by war and disaster and poverty, and for the churches everywhere to be awakened and guided by the Holy Spirit, who alone can give the word of wisdom that brings unity and direction.
May the Lord keep you watchful in prayer, asking for strength to escape the things that are coming and to stand before the Son of Man, as Jesus taught. The gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. All of God's promises are Yes in Christ, and in Him we can say Amen with confidence as we bring these requests before the Father in Jesus' name, our faithful and true witness.
