Hopes And Dreams
3 (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.) 4 At once the LORD said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, "Come out to the Tent of Meeting, all three of you." So the three of them came out. 5 Then the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud; he stood at the entrance to the Tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When both of them stepped forward, 6 he said, "Listen to my words: "When a prophet of the LORD is among you, I reveal myself to him in visions, I speak to him in dreams. (Numbers 12:3-6)
Hopes are those things that are more urgent - our prayers for us and for others. Dreams are things we would like to happen - becoming rich, owning that dream home, traveling around the world.
God still gives us dreams - dreams that come while we sleep and dreams that lead us toward what God wants for all. When we dream of a world where God is known by all, we know that those dreams will be fulfilled. And God's kingdom will continue to expand in and through God's people as we dream God-given dreams and work towards their fulfillment.
Jesus expressed his dream in a phrase "the kingdom of God." This is not a place but a time when all acknowledge God's rule and God's will is done "on earth as it is in heaven." The Christian good news is that in Christ dreams have been fulfilled and the kingdom of God was made into a reality. Those who believe in Christ share in this dream and have an opportunity to live out that dream in their own lives here on earth.
