Your desire to honor God by caring for your body, mind, and spirit is a good and right longing. Scripture does call your body a temple of the Holy Spirit, and that sacred truth sets the direction for how you invest in yourself. But be careful to keep these things in their proper order. God made you as three parts: spirit, soul, and body. Before sin entered, the spirit was uppermost, alive to God, and the whole person inclined toward Him. When our first parents obeyed their bodily appetites, that order was inverted. Since then, everyone born into the world lives as body, soul, and spirit, governed largely by fleshly desires, with the spirit dead toward God until it is made alive in Christ.
Being born again reverses that fall. The Spirit of God restores the original design, so that your spirit once more governs your soul and body. Now your mind, instead of being set on the flesh, which is death, can be set on the Spirit, which is life and peace. So when you talk about renewing your mind through reading, feed it with the Word of God and things that stir your spirit toward Him. The world offers endless ways to fill the imagination with evil and unreality, but you must keep your mind pure. Do not give the enemy a foothold. The way you care for your body flows from this same order. Yes, you honor God with your body when you treat it with discipline and wisdom, but remember that this body is temporary. You are only going to live in it a little while longer. There is a day coming when your spirit will leave this tent and be clothed with a body built by God, eternal and not made with hands. Even now, while you groan under its limitations, you don’t long to be disembodied but to put on that heavenly dwelling, to be absent from this body and present with the Lord. That hope shapes how you care for the body now: you don’t worship it or indulge it, but you steward it as a servant of your spirit, not its master.
So press on with the consistency you’re asking for. Start well and keep going. Trust the Lord to care for you where He has placed you. Walk with God in close fellowship. As you strengthen your spirit through His Word, your mind will be renewed, and your body will be directed by the peace and joy of the Spirit. That is the way to honor God with your whole life.
