We rejoice in your cry for the fullness of God’s Spirit and the deep work of Christ in the heart! The passage you’ve lifted from Ephesians 3 is a towering declaration of the Father’s desire to strengthen us with His own power, to root us in love, and to fill us to overflowing with His very presence. It is not a mere wish, it is a promise already secured by the finished work of Jesus on the cross and the resurrection power that now dwells within every believer.

We bow our knees with you, echoing Paul’s prayer, and ask the Father to do exceedingly above all we can ask or think. We pray that you would be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner person, not just for a moment, but as a continual reality. May Christ truly dwell in your heart through faith, not as a distant guest, but as the sovereign Lord who rules, transforms, and fills every chamber of your soul. May you be so rooted and grounded in love that you are no longer tossed by doubt, fear, or the shifting tides of emotion, but stand firm in the unshakable truth of who you are in Him.

We pray that you would know, truly know, the width, length, depth, and height of Christ’s love. This love is not abstract; it is personal, sacrificial, and eternal. It surpasses human understanding, yet God longs for you to experience it in full measure. May you be filled with all the fullness of God, not just a portion, but the complete abundance of His nature, His power, His peace, and His joy. Let this fullness overflow from your life, touching everyone around you with the fragrance of Christ.

Father, we ask that You would break every chain of unbelief, every lie of the enemy that whispers you are not enough, that you are alone, or that Your power is limited. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in you. We rebuke every spirit of timidity, passivity, or spiritual dullness that would hinder you from walking in the fullness of what You have purchased. We declare that you are a temple of the Holy Spirit, bought with the precious blood of Jesus, and called to live in the freedom and authority of a child of God.

If there is any area of your life where sin has taken root, whether in thought, word, or deed, we encourage you to confess it before the Lord. He is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. Do not allow shame or guilt to keep you from drawing near to Him. The blood of Jesus speaks a better word than the accuser’s voice.

And if you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so today. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Salvation is not found in religion, good works, or human effort, but in repentance and faith in the finished work of Christ. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the name by which every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord. To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

We’re joining you in that right now.

One thing that helps this passage come alive for us is to remember that it’s not just a poetic request. It’s a prayer for rootedness, not a temporary feeling. When we face disappointment or confusion, being “rooted and grounded in love” means there’s a steadiness underneath us that doesn’t shift with circumstances. That love surpasses what our minds can fully grasp, yet we can grow in experiencing it.

A simple step we’ve found helpful: this week, take just one phrase from that passage each morning and carry it with you. For example, “strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner person” could be your quiet breath prayer when you feel weary. Let it become part of how you walk through the day, not just words you prayed once.

Father, thank You for the riches of Your glory. We ask together that You would grant, according to that abundance, a fresh strengthening in the inner core of who we are. Let Christ truly dwell in our hearts through faith. Ground us in love, real, immovable love, so that we can begin to grasp how wide and long and high and deep His love is, even when it exceeds our understanding. You have set before us a prayer of unspeakable depth, drawn from the Apostle's own bowing of the knees. What a mercy that the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has named a whole family in heaven and earth, and that He grants according to the riches of His glory. The request for strength in the inner man is not a trifle. The Spirit of God must work mightily if Christ is to dwell in our hearts by faith. That indwelling is no mere visitor's passing call; it is a perpetual residence, a constant friend abiding with us. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly then, for this love of the Law and the Gospel is the very atmosphere in which faith breathes. Do not imagine this is a small thing, that the Holy Spirit should stoop to tenant such dusty chambers as our hearts. He has come to glorify Christ, to take of His things and show them to us, and where He truly dwells, self is laid low and Jesus rises supreme.

To be rooted and grounded in love is to have the soil of the soul prepared for a grand comprehension. We cannot fathom that love by mere study; its width and length, its depth and height pass knowledge. It is a love like a husband's, yet infinitely purer and more fiery, a special, covenant affection that Christ set upon us before the world was made. He pitied us, but more, He loved us and gave Himself for us. This is the wonder: that He, the darling of the heavens, should set His heart upon sinful men, upon me. Let every remembrance of your own small love to Him drive you back to the great sun of His love to you. Your love is but a reflection, a feeble spark; His is the ocean. And this flame is fed secretly by a golden oil of the Spirit, a ceaseless stream of consolation no rebuke can dampen.

To be filled with all the fullness of God, here language staggers. All fullness dwells in Christ, the fullness of Deity and of perfect Manhood, a fullness of comfort, wisdom, and power which no necessity of your spirit can outrun. What does a seeking sinner want? Christ is all. God meets you in Him, and a treaty of peace is signed. When the Spirit fills a soul, He glorifies Christ by taking these inexhaustible riches and making them over to poor believers. He does not deal with our politics or our philosophies, but with the things of Christ. For every hour of sinking spirit or angry temper, let that word dwell in you. You cannot keep the Law as you would, but the love of it is the Spirit's own work and the prophecy of your perfection. Glory be to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all we ask or think. The power that works in us will bring us home. Rejoice, then, in this day of seeming rebuke; the thunder is heard, but it is mere noise. Fall at His dear feet, embrace them with affection, and be filled.

You have set your heart upon a magnificent thing, to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge and to be filled up to all the fullness of God. This is no common petition, but it is exactly what God wills to accomplish in those who love Him, for He is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think.

Only understand clearly the path to this filling. It comes when Christ dwells in your heart through faith, and when you are rooted and grounded in love. The Spirit strengthens the inner person, but He does not make His home in a sepulchre of uncleanness. Consider what a dignity it is to be a temple of God, not adorned with gold or pearls but with the Spirit more precious than these. If we would have the Spirit in full measure, we must put away everything that defiles: envy, lust, bitter speech, any sin that corrupts that holy habitation. Christ needs no baptism from us; rather, our hearts need the cleansing power of His Spirit.

And take note that the Apostle prays we may comprehend this love “with all the saints.” There is no private fullness, no knowing this breadth and length, while we stand apart from the body of Christ. Nothing so provokes God’s anger as division in the Church. Not even martyrdom can wash out the sin of rending that body. Love of power, schism, refusal to walk in unity with the faithful, these cut us off from the fullness we seek. If you desire the Spirit that flows from the Head, then cleave unbreakably to the members of His body.

Yet do not despair at the height of this calling. The love of God is not given in scanty measure but shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit. Before any labor of ours, He has already honored us with this Gift. If He gave His Spirit when we were still sinners, how much more will He grant this overflowing fullness to those who earnestly pursue it? Let your hope rest not on your own strength but on His immeasurable love, which never disappoints.

Apply yourself then with all eagerness. Give heed to virtue and flee every vice. When trials or sorrows arise, do not let a storm of anxious thought confound you; instead, yield to God’s providence in quiet trust. The Spirit who descended upon Christ to make Him known desires to reveal Him in you, that you may know the dimensions of a love that outstrips all human knowledge and be filled with all the fullness of God. To Him be glory in the Church forever.

That prayer reaches into the very thing we most need and cannot manufacture ourselves: strength in the hidden person, Christ truly at home in the heart, love that surpasses what we can measure, and the fullness of God. And the Lord is not reluctant to answer such a prayer, because it is his own will for you in Christ.

That strength matters more than we realize. The enemy does not stop setting temptations before us. Our own resolve is not enough. The strength you are asking for is not mere willpower; it is the same kind of power that raised Jesus from the dead, given by the Holy Spirit in the inner person. When Jesus told his disciples they would receive power, he meant a power that would make them witnesses from the inside out. That same Spirit is the only one who can make Christ genuinely at home in your heart, not as a guest you visit now and then, but as the one who settles down and rules every room of your life.

I also want you to see that this prayer is not mostly about seeking an emotional experience. It is about being rooted and grounded in love. The love that can hold you is not your love for God, but God's love for you in sending his Son to bear your sins. The Spirit makes that love real in you and then begins to produce that same love through you. The proof that God dwells in us is not merely that we have an impressive spiritual moment. The fruit of the Spirit is love. So ask the Lord to keep working this love into you until you love the people around you more like Jesus does, even the difficult ones.

And do not shrink back from the last part. The heavens cannot contain God, yet he is pleased to dwell in those who belong to Christ and to fill them with himself. You will not grasp the width and length and depth and height all at once. No one can fully comprehend that love, because it surpasses knowledge. But you can grow in it. Ask for more. God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all you ask or think, according to the power already at work in you. The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead gives life to you and is still working in the unfinished places of your life.

So receive the words you have prayed as a real invitation. Bow your knees before the Father and keep asking him for inner strength, for Christ to be at home in you through faith, for love to be your foundation, and for the Spirit to fill you to overflowing. He will not answer by making you self-sufficient. He will answer by making you dependent on him, and that is the safest place you can be. To him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.
