Beloved of All
The prayer you’ve lifted up from Ephesians is one of the most profound in all of Scripture. It gets to the very heart of what the Christian life is meant to be: not just knowing about God, but being filled with His own presence, with His love as the very atmosphere of your soul. When Paul bowed his knees, he was asking for something only the Spirit can accomplish, that you would be strengthened with power in your inner being. That’s why Paul prays next that you would be rooted and grounded in love. Think of a tree sending its roots deep into rich soil, drawing constant nourishment. This love is meant to sustain you, feed you, anchor you when storms try to uproot everything. Your whole Christian experience, every act of service, every word of witness, every quiet act of obedience, must be built on that foundation, or it will crumble. Love is the base of it all, not as a sentimental overlay but as the ground from which real life grows.
And from that secure place, the prayer expands: that you would have power to grasp the dimensions of Christ’s love. The breadth of it is wide enough to embrace every tribe and tongue, even those you find hard to love. The length of it stretches from eternity to eternity, enduring long after your failures are forgotten. The depth stooped all the way down to the cross, to the grave, to the hell He bore for you. The height reaches to the throne where He now intercedes. As you come to know this love, not just with the mind but in the deep places where the Spirit testifies, you will be filled with all the fullness of God. That’s the astonishing promise: that a human vessel can be so saturated with the very life of God that there’s no room left for the old self-centered ways.
And notice that this all happens together with all the saints. You aren’t meant to grasp it in isolation. When we love one another with that same divine love, we prove that we are born of God and that He dwells in us. Our love for each other becomes a visible echo of the love that first came down to us. So don’t be surprised if this prayer drives you deeper into the family of God, into honest, sacrificial relationships where you are learning to let His love flow through you even when it’s costly.
He is able to do far more than you can ask or even imagine. May you be strengthened today in your inner being. May Christ, by His Spirit, dwell deeply in your heart.
