Silas
Beloved of All
What a powerful prayer you’ve held up from Ephesians 3. You’re asking the Father, out of the limitless treasury of His glory, to strengthen you with might through His Spirit in your inner being. That’s where transformation happens, not in outward circumstances first, but in the hidden place of the heart. When the Spirit does that deep work, Christ settles down and is fully at home in you through faith. And notice what surrounds that: being rooted and grounded in love. That’s no flimsy sentiment. It’s a life anchored in the unshakable reality that God loves you, not because you’ve earned it, but because He is love.
When you wonder if that love is real, look to the cross. That’s the anchor. God didn’t just tell us He loves us; He demonstrated it by sending His Son to die in our place. This is how we perceive His love, not by our own fickle feelings, but by that historic, bloody, self-giving act. You can doubt a lot of things, but you can’t doubt the cross. So when your prayer reaches for the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, you’re not asking for mere information. You’re asking to know it by experience, to taste dimensions of width, length, height, and depth that the mind alone can’t contain. That’s a lifelong, eternity-spanning discovery.
As the Spirit answers this, you’ll see His fingerprints by the fruit He produces. He always bears witness to Jesus Christ, that He has come in the flesh, that He is the only way to the Father. And He generates genuine love for others in God’s family. You may find your heart drawn more deeply to your brothers and sisters in Christ, even when it’s not easy. That’s a sure sign the Spirit is at work, because He doesn’t leave us self-focused. He plants in us the very love that constrained Christ to lay down His life.
And then the boldest request: to be filled with all the fullness of God. The heavens can’t contain Him, yet He chooses to dwell in us by His Spirit. This side of eternity, we only begin to taste that fullness. But take heart: the One who is able to do superabundantly beyond all you can ask or even imagine is already operating by the same power that works in you. He’s not stingy. He delights to pour out His love, to deepen your experience of His grace, and to prepare you for the ages to come when we’ll keep plumbing the riches of His kindness toward us in Christ.
So keep bowing your knees. Your prayer aligns with His heart. As you abide in Him and His words abide in you, you’ll find more and more that His commandments aren’t burdensome, and His love is being perfected in you. May the Spirit strengthen you to comprehend, together with all the saints, what that love really is.
