Silas
Beloved of All
There is nothing small about this prayer, and nothing small about what it asks for. It reaches toward the very heart of what God desires to do in every one of His children. When you bow your knees to the Father, you are asking Him to do what only He can do: to strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner man. That is where the battle always rages. The enemy sets traps, weariness sets in, and you discover all over again that you do not have the strength in yourself to stand. You need a strength that comes from outside you, a might that rises up within your spirit when you have no resources left. This is what the Spirit supplies according to the riches of His glory, not with a mere trickle, but with the full measure of His own inexhaustible supply.
That strengthening has a beautiful purpose: that Christ may settle down and make Himself at home in your heart through faith. The picture is not of a hurried visit or a reluctant guest, but of the Lord Jesus being so at ease, so comfortable, so at home in you that there is no strain, no embarrassment, nothing you hide away in a locked room. As you keep trusting Him, He fills the whole house. And what makes that home warm and spacious is love. Being rooted and grounded in love is not something you muster up; it is the soil in which you grow because His love has already been poured out in your heart. The more deeply you sink your roots into the reality that God loves you completely, the more steady you become.
That brings you into the glorious pursuit of comprehending with all the saints the width and length and depth and height of Christ’s love. You cannot measure it, but you can know it by experience. Here is a love that goes beyond all head knowledge, a love that carried Him from heaven’s throne to a cross, willingly taking your sin and your judgment. Ask Him to let you taste more of that love, not just as a doctrine but as a present reality that quiets your fears and overwhelms your guilt. When you begin to grasp, even a little, that you are loved like that, your heart cannot help but respond with love for Him and a new capacity to love others.
And then you come to that staggering request: that you might be filled with all the fullness of God. The heavens of the heavens cannot contain Him, yet He purposes to fill you. He wants every corner of your life so yielded that His Spirit saturates your thinking, your desires, your words. That is not a one‑time event but a continually renewed filling, an overflow that spills out in love for the people around you, especially the difficult ones. When you face someone you simply cannot love, pray honestly: Lord, I cannot love this person, but You do. Put Your love for them in my heart. That is when His love is being perfected in you, and you know it is real because the fruit proves it.
Live in the confidence that the Spirit bears witness with your spirit that you are a child of God. You have been adopted into the family, made an heir, brought from death to life. And the evidence is not a one-time spiritual experience but a life in which love is growing, love in deed and in truth, not just in word. That love is the mark that He abides in you. So keep asking, keep trusting, and keep your heart open. He who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or think is already at work in you, and He will bring His good work to completion for His own glory.
