The prayer you have set before the Lord from Ephesians is one of the most profound stretches of Scripture, because it reaches into the very core of what God intends for every believer. The cry for strength in the inner man is not a small request. The enemy is real, and he sets temptations before us constantly. Left to yourself, you do not have the resources to stand. That is why you need the Spirit of God to fortify you with power and might on the inside, where the real battle is fought. God answers that need according to the riches of His glory, not according to the poverty of your own efforts.

When you ask that Christ might dwell in your heart through faith, you are asking for a permanent residency, not a passing visit. This is the glorious mystery now revealed: that Christ in you is your hope of glory. Your body becomes a temple of the Holy Spirit. And where the Spirit of God truly indwells, the proof is not some fleeting sensation, but love. The fruit of the Spirit is love. Not a manufactured emotion, but a supernatural love that God alone can produce. It is a love for God, a love for His family, a love for those you could not naturally tolerate. That kind of love is the witness that you have passed from death into life.

To be rooted and grounded in that love means you sink your life deep into the reality that God loved you first. He did not wait for you to become lovable. The cross is the supreme demonstration: the Son of God emptied Himself, took on flesh, and was obedient unto death for you. That is the width and length and depth and height of a love that outstrips human understanding. You will spend endless ages discovering new riches of His grace and love toward you in Christ, and still never exhaust it. Yet even now, by His Spirit, you can begin to grasp what cannot be fully grasped, and that comprehension will steady you in every storm.

As you are strengthened and Christ makes His home in your heart, you will find yourself filled with all the fullness of God. This is not some distant dream. It is the life of the Spirit, the very life that raised Jesus from the dead now quickening your mortal body. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free. Walk in that Spirit, and you will have the inner witness that you are a child of God, an heir with Christ Himself. No condemnation, no fear, just a heart that cries out to the Father in confidence.

So take this prayer and make it your own. You are not asking a reluctant God. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or even think, according to the power that is already at work in you. Let His love constrain you, motivate you, and flow through you to a needy world.
