Dreams Visions Now, from Holy Spirit ️ While Sleeping, Job 33:12-17; Matt 2:12, Prophecy, Joel 2:28, Numb 12:6, Acts 16:9...Father, we come as little children in faith, asking the goal of our instruction, Love from a pure heart, a sincere faith and a blameless conscience, 1 Tim 1:5. We look to You and Your Word, Isaiah 8:20, rather than to all we see and hear from the noise and pollution of the world, and thank You, "You are able to save forever those who come to God through Jesus, because He lives to make intercession for us," Heb 7:25, c.f. Rom 8:34.

Heavenly Father, thank You for speaking in many portions and many ways, Heb 1:1, especially through The Foundational Rock of Your Son, 1 Cor 3:11, Heb 1:2-3, and The Holy Spirit through the Apostles, John 16:12-14, and and giving us ability to understand You and Your Word, Luke 24:45, Eph 1:17. We ask for this husband and wife (entire family), that You'd give dreams and counsel, as it is written in Job 33:14, "For God does speak—now one way, now another—though no one perceives it. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people, as they slumber in their beds, 16 He may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, 17 to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, 18 to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword." Again, as with the affairs concerning our father, Abraham, even to those outside the covenants of God, Gen 20:3, like him we are fully persuaded You are able to fulfill what You promise, Rom 4:21. Pour out Your Holy Spirit on her, him, me, us, them, all flesh, as prophesied in in Joel 2:28, “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old will dream dreams, your youth will see visions. 29 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days," Joel 2:28-29, c.f. Acts 2:17-18. Father, with humble confidence, give her, them, us dreams and visions underlining your will for us in Christ Jesus, as You have done from ancient times on those saved Matt 1:20, Matt 2:12, and unsaved alike, Gen 20:3, Gen 31:24, Dan 2:1, Dan 4:5, until present, Acts 19:6, and You will continue to though the future, Heb 13:8. Your arm is not too short, Num 11:23, especially to save, Isa 50:2, Isa 59:1.

We join together with you in this heartfelt desire to hear from the Lord and to walk in His will as little children, and we thank God for your hunger for His Word and for your confidence in His power. We love your quotation of Isaiah 8:20, To the law and to the testimony, if they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them, and we agree that we must look to the Lord and to His Word rather than to the noise and pollution of the world.

We share your confidence that nothing shall be impossible with God, Luke 1:37, and that with God all things are possible, Mark 10:27, and that He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them, Hebrews 7:25. We rejoice that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, for Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. We are grateful your prayer is offered in Jesus name, for that is our only confidence.

We also want to gently encourage and instruct you concerning dreams and visions, because while we affirm with you that God has spoken in many portions and many ways, Hebrews 1:1, and that He did give dreams to Joseph, Matthew 1:20, to the wise men, Matthew 2:12, to Abimelech, Genesis 20:3, and to others, and that He promised I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions, Joel 2:28, which was fulfilled at Pentecost as Peter declared in Acts 2:17, we must also remember what the same writer to the Hebrews says next, that in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, Hebrews 1:2. The foundation has been laid through Christ and the apostles, 1 Corinthians 3:11 and Ephesians 2:20, and we now have a more sure word of prophecy, 2 Peter 1:19, in the completed Scriptures.

We would lovingly rebuke the tendency in our day to seek dreams, visions, or prophetic experiences as a primary or regular way of hearing God apart from or above Scripture. The Scriptures themselves warn us, Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, 1 John 4:1, and to Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good, 1 Thessalonians 5:21. God does speak, as you quoted, For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed, Job 33:14-15, yet even there the purpose is to turn man from his deed, and hide pride from man, to keep back his soul from the pit, Job 33:17-18, not to give new revelation beyond His Word. Every dream or impression today must be tested by the Word, for All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work, 2 Timothy 3:16-17. If we seek experiences without the anchor of Scripture we open ourselves to deception, for false christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the chosen ones, Matthew 24:24.

This does not mean God is unable to give a dream to correct, warn or comfort this husband and wife and entire family if He so wills, for His arm is not shortened, Isaiah 59:1 and Numbers 11:23, and He remains the same yesterday, today, and forever, Hebrews 13:8. It simply means we should not seek the dream itself, but seek the Lord Himself through His Word and prayer, asking for wisdom and illumination by the Holy Spirit who guides us into all truth, John 16:13, and who opened the minds of the disciples to understand the Scriptures, Luke 24:45. The goal of our instruction is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith, 1 Timothy 1:5, as you prayed, and that comes as we abide in Christ and His words abide in us, John 15:7.

We rejoice that you are praying for a husband and wife and entire family, and we affirm the sanctity of marriage as God designed it for life. We pray that this marriage will be strengthened in Christ and be a testimony of His covenant love.

We pray together now for you all.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, thanking You that You have spoken fully and finally through Him and through Your holy Word. We ask that You pour out Your Spirit upon this husband and wife and their entire family, not as a seeking after signs, but to give them a pure heart, a blameless conscience and sincere faith. Give them understanding of Your Word, Ephesians 1:17, and cause them to delight in Your law and to test every spirit and every dream by it. If it is Your will to speak to them in the night to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride and preserve them from the pit, Job 33:17-18, we trust You are able, but above all we ask that You make them mature in Christ, rooted in Scripture, kept from temptation, from evil, from deception and from the evil one, Matthew 6:13 and John 17:15 and 2 Thessalonians 3:3. Guard them from lies, fear, and the deceitfulness of the world, and keep them from being led astray by false visions. Make them to know that You can do all things, Job 42:2, and help them to pray according to Your will, for this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us, 1 John 5:14. Lead this family in Your perfect will in Christ Jesus, build their marriage and home upon the Rock, and let their lives bear fruit for Your glory. We thank You in advance trusting not in our feelings but in Your faithfulness, knowing without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, Hebrews 11:6. We ask all this in the saving and interceding name of Jesus, Amen.

We were grateful to read your prayer for your husband, your family, and yourself, that childlike trust asking God to lead you clearly and keep you close to Him is beautiful, and we join you in it.

We hear how much you want to be sure you are hearing Him well, especially when thoughts, dreams, or strong impressions come. What has helped us is remembering the Holy Spirit is our Counselor and Helper who guides us into truth. His power and his truth always go together with his love, so what He shows us will never pull us away from what God has already said in His Word, but will deepen our love for Jesus and for one another and bring peace and clarity over time.

A simple practice that many find steadying is to keep seeking God together in prayer and in Scripture, and when a dream or sense of guidance comes, to write it down quietly, bring it to the Word, and talk it through with a trusted pastor or mature believers who know you. That shared discernment helps keep us from both missing what God may be showing and from being led astray by the noise around us.

Father, we thank You for this family and their desire to follow You. Draw each of them closer to Jesus, give them wisdom and unity, guard them from confusion and from the evil one, and make Your will clear to them as they walk with You day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is a good thing that you come as little children desiring to hear the voice of God rather than the noise and pollution of the world, and that you look to the Word, for to the law and to the testimony must we go, and if we speak not according to that Word it is because there is no light in us.

Your prayer rightly confesses that our Lord Jesus lives to make intercession for us and is able to save forever those who come to God through Him, and that God has spoken in many portions and many ways, and has now spoken most fully by His Son, who is the foundational Rock. The Holy Spirit was promised to the apostles to guide them into all truth, and through them we have the sure Word, and by that Spirit our eyes are opened to understand it.

You ask concerning dreams and visions, and you cite Job, Joel, Numbers and Acts. Remember how tenderly the Holy Spirit deals with us. He has made the little narrow heart of man, though it be but a cottage, a very hovel, His palace and continual abode. He condescends to dwell there, not as an influence or an it, but as a living Person to be adored and obeyed. And this same Spirit is grieved, as Scripture says, grieve not the Holy Spirit. He is grieved by unbelief and by unholiness of life, when men walk not according to the Gospel. To vex His loving heart is a most tender and touching evil.

What then does the Holy Spirit do. Our Lord says, He shall glorify Me, for He shall receive of Mine and shall show it unto you. The whole blessed Godhead works together for the saving of a soul, and the Spirit delights to take the things of Christ and reveal them. When you are dealing with the things of Christ you are on Holy Spirit ground. He does not lead us gadding about after trifles, nor to magnify outward rites or curious speculations, but to magnify Christ. That teaching is not of the Spirit which detracts from Christ as Savior, and that experience is not of the Spirit which draws the eye away from Him.

In Job, Elihu speaks of God warning man in the night to turn him from wrongdoing and keep him from pride and to preserve his soul from the pit. It is true. God is sovereign and can speak as He wills, and nothing shall be impossible with Him. In Joel the prophet foretold the pouring out of the Spirit, and Peter declares that at Pentecost that word was fulfilled. Yet observe how that outpouring worked. Men did not receive new revelations to add to Scripture, but they received Christ, they repented, they believed, they were sealed. The Spirit is the Author of all spiritual life. Until He visits us we are dead in trespasses and sins. No man can become holy except by the Spirit of Holiness, no man can truly pray without His help, and no man is saved by mere means of grace apart from Him.

Therefore do not seek first a dream or a vision. Seek Christ, and seek to pray in the Holy Spirit. That phrase means praying in His power and by His help, for we poor, ignorant, wavering sons of men know not how to pray as we ought. The carnal mind knows nothing of this, but the child of God cries mightily, Lord teach me, and the Spirit helps our infirmities. There is no rubric for prayer except this, in the Holy Spirit. If prayer is in the Spirit it is accepted, though it be broken and feeble. If it be not in the Spirit it is in the flesh, though it be adorned with solemn sound upon a thoughtless tongue.

So for this husband and wife and entire family, my counsel is this. Honor the Holy Spirit by entire dependence upon Him. Confess that without Him you utterly fail, that only when He comes is there any life and force and power. Ask Him not so much to give you a sign in the night as to give you Christ in the heart, to show you your sin and Christ's sufficiency, to make you holy, to keep you from temptation and from the evil one, to give you a pure heart and a sincere faith and a blameless conscience. If He in His wisdom should give a dream to warn or comfort, He is able, and His arm is not shortened. But test every impression by the sure Word, for the Spirit never contradicts the Word He inspired, and He ever glorifies Christ.

May the Lord grant that you grieve not the Spirit by unbelief, but receive Him and know Him, for you may know whether you have Him. As one has said, give a man an electric shock and he will know it, and much more shall you know when the Holy Spirit dwells in you as the source and force of your life. Cry to Him to reveal Christ to you from the Scriptures, to keep you walking in holiness, and to seal to your hearts that you are the children of God. So shall you be preserved from deception and kept in the love of God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
