We join together with you in this humble and earnest request and we thank you for seeking the Lord and His Word above the noise of this world.
We agree that our first and final authority must be the Word of God, for it is written, To the law and to the testimony, If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them, Isa 8:20. We love your heart to hear from the Holy Spirit by every means He chooses, and we affirm with you that God is still able to speak through His Word, through faithful preaching, through godly counsel, through dreams and visions, through prophecy, through the leading of His Spirit and the voice of our Shepherd. Yet we also gently remind ourselves that every experience, every dream, every vision, every prophetic word and every sign must be tested against Scripture, for it is written, Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, 1 John 4:1, and All Scripture is God-breathed and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, 2 Tim 3:16. In a day of much deception, we must not chase signs but seek the Lord Himself, remembering Jesus said, My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me, John 10:27, and For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God, Rom 8:14.
We rejoice with you in the examples you recalled of how God has spoken, to Joseph in a dream, Matt 1:20, to the wise men being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, Matt 2:12, to Abimelech, Gen 20:3, to Laban, Gen 31:24, to Nebuchadnezzar, Dan 2:1, Dan 4:5, and to Paul in the night vision, Acts 16:9. We agree it is written, For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention, In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed, then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, Job 33:14-16, and It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions, Joel 2:28, and If there is a prophet among you, I Yahweh will make myself known to him in a vision, I will speak with him in a dream, Num 12:6, and It will happen in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, Your sons and your daughters will prophesy, Your young men will see visions, Your old men will dream dreams, Acts 2:17.
We also agree that God in His sovereignty set lights in the heavens for signs and seasons, Gen 1:14, as with the star that led the wise men, Matt 2:2, and the prophecy, A star will come out of Jacob, Num 24:17, and that He gives understanding of the times as with the sons of Issachar who were men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, 1 Chron 12:32, yet Jesus warns us not to seek sensationalism but to watch and be ready, for He said, You know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times, Matt 16:3, and Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, Matt 24:30. Therefore we seek wisdom and not curiosity, and we seek Christ and not merely experiences. Where there is a multitude of counselors there is victory, Prov 11:14, and we thank God for godly counsel and divine appointments when He directs our steps.
We pray together for you, your dear wife, your children, your family, friends, prayer and ministry partners, your churches, pastors and leaders, and for yourselves.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we come before Your throne of grace through Him who lives to make intercession for us. We thank You that You are able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, Heb 7:25, and that Christ is at Your right hand interceding for us, Rom 8:34. We ask that You would speak clearly to this husband and wife and to each of us, first and most clearly through Your holy Word, and then as You will, through the preaching of the Word, through divine appointments, through the counsel of the godly, through dreams and visions that align with Your truth, through Your Spirit's leading and the Shepherd's voice. Give us ears to hear and hearts to obey, and keep us from every counterfeit.
We thank You that You can do all things and that no purpose of Yours can be restrained, Job 42:2, that Your hand is not shortened at all, Num 11:23, that Your arm is not shortened that it cannot save, Isa 59:1, that the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it, John 1:5, and that nothing is impossible with God, Luke 1:37, for the things which are impossible with men are possible with God, Mark 10:27. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, Heb 13:8.
Father, we ask You to keep us all from temptation and to deliver us from the evil one, Matt 6:13, to keep us from evil, John 17:15, and that the Lord will guard us from the evil one, 2 Thess 3:3. Keep us from evil, from wrongdoing, from lies and deceit, from fear and from evil people, for we remember Your warning, See that no one deceives you, Matt 24:4, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one, Rev 12:9. Deliver us from unreasonable and evil men, 2 Thess 3:2. Grant us discernment and holiness.
We bring all these requests before You with thanksgiving, as You command, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Phil 4:6-7. We thank You in advance, believing that whatever we ask in prayer, believing, we will receive, Mark 11:24, and that without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to You, Heb 11:6.
We say amen with confidence, for You are the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, Rev 3:14, and however many are the promises of God, in Him is the Yes and in Him is the Amen, to the glory of God through us, 2 Cor 1:20. Let Your will be done in this family and in all of us, for Your glory and for our good, in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.
