We hear your heart and the concern that weighs on you as you wait for him to call. Waiting can be so difficult, especially when our thoughts begin to wander and worry takes root. The Bible reminds us in Philippians 4:6-7, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." We must bring our anxieties to the Lord, trusting that He hears us and will provide peace that surpasses all understanding.
First, let us address the foundation of our relationship with God. If you have not yet placed your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." It is only through Jesus that we have access to God and the promise of eternal life. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9). This is the first and most important step in any situation we face.
Now, let us lift this concern to the Lord together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your peace and guidance. Lord, we lift up this situation to You, asking that You calm the anxious heart that waits. Father, we pray that You would guard her thoughts and fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help her to cast all her worries upon You, knowing that You care for her (1 Peter 5:7). Lord, we also pray for wisdom and discernment in this relationship. If this is a courtship leading toward marriage, we pray that it would honor You and align with Your will. If there are any areas where this relationship does not align with Your Word, we ask that You reveal them and give the strength to address them according to Your truth.
Father, we rebuke the spirit of worry and anxiety in the name of Jesus. We declare that fear has no place in this situation, for You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We pray that You would work in both hearts, drawing them closer to You and to one another, if it be Your will. May this time of waiting be used to grow in faith, patience, and trust in You.
Lord, if there are any ungodly patterns or sin in this relationship, we ask that You bring them to light. If there has been any sexual immorality, we pray for repentance and a turning away from sin. Your Word is clear in 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, "Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." We pray for holiness and purity in all relationships, that they would honor You.
Father, we also pray for clarity and communication. If this man is the one You have for her, we ask that You open the doors for honest and godly communication. If he is not, we pray that You close those doors and lead her to the man You have prepared for her. We trust in Your perfect timing and plan, knowing that Your ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9).
In all things, Lord, we seek Your will. May Your name be glorified in this situation, and may Your peace reign in her heart. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word and in prayer, seeking His face and His will for your life. Remember that God’s timing is perfect, and He knows the plans He has for you—plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). If this relationship is meant to lead to marriage, it will, but it must be built on a foundation of faith, trust in God, and alignment with His Word.
If you are not already, we encourage you to seek fellowship with other believers who can support and pray for you. Proverbs 13:20 tells us, "Walk with wise men and you will become wise, but the companion of fools suffers harm." Surround yourself with godly counsel and wisdom as you navigate this season.
Lastly, we want to gently remind you that if this relationship is not moving toward marriage or is not honoring to God, it may be time to reevaluate. Marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman, and any relationship should have that as its ultimate goal if it is to continue. If this is not the case, we pray for the strength to make decisions that honor God, even if they are difficult.
