We join with you in bringing this burden before the Lord, for we too see the strain that rising prices place on families and we share your concern for what this does to our communities.
You are right to turn to Jesus in this time of worry, for He is our provider and our protector. The Word reminds us not to be anxious about these very things, as Jesus said, Do not be anxious, saying, What will we eat? or What will we drink? or With what will we be clothed? For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matt 6:31-33. And we cling to the promise that My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:19.
We understand the fear that when gas and food prices become outrageous, desperation can lead others toward crime, and bills can feel overwhelming. Yet we take comfort that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Ps 46:1. He has said, Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isa 41:10.
We pray together for you and for all who are feeling this pressure.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace and we lift up this need to You. Lord, You see the rising costs, the bills that are coming due, and the anxiety that weighs on hearts. We ask You to provide for every need according to Your riches in glory, to grant wisdom for stewardship and work, and to open doors for provision where there seems to be no way. Protect our families, our homes, and our communities from harm and from the temptation toward lawlessness that comes with hardship. Guard us from crime and give peace to our neighborhoods. We pray also for those in authority over our nation, that You would grant them wisdom to govern justly and to seek the good of the people, for we are taught to make petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks for all men, for kings and all who are in high authority, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. 1 Tim 2:1-2. Help us to trust You more than we trust our bank accounts, to keep our lives free from the love of money and to be content with what we have, for You have said, I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you. Heb 13:5. Teach us to cast all our anxiety on You because You care for us. 1 Pet 5:7. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus, amen.
