We hear the deep longing in your heart for these two cousin brothers who are also your best friends, and we want to approach this with both truth and compassion. First, we must acknowledge that Scripture is clear about the boundaries God has set for relationships, particularly in marriage. The Bible affirms marriage as a sacred covenant between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6), and it does not support or endorse romantic or marital relationships outside of this design—whether that be same-sex relationships, polygamy, or relationships with close family members.
Leviticus 18:6 explicitly states, *"None of you shall approach anyone who is near of kin to him, to uncover his nakedness: I am Yahweh."* This command is repeated in the New Testament as well, where we are called to honor God with our bodies and relationships (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). While your love and affection for these men as friends and family is understandable, pursuing a romantic or marital relationship with either of them would violate God’s design for purity and holiness. The Bible also warns against emotional or physical attachments that lead us away from God’s will, as these can become stumbling blocks to our faith and obedience (1 Corinthians 10:13).
We must also address the reality that your desire for these relationships, while deeply felt, may be rooted in a longing for companionship that God intends to fulfill in ways that align with His Word. Psalm 37:4 reminds us, *"Delight yourself also in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart."* This does not mean God will give us whatever we want, but that as we seek Him first, He shapes our desires to match His will. If your heart is set on something that contradicts Scripture, it is not a desire God can bless.
We rebuke the lie that there is "nothing wrong" with pursuing these relationships. The enemy often twists our affections to lead us away from God’s best for us. James 1:14-15 warns, *"But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death."* We must guard our hearts against desires that lead us into sin, no matter how natural or innocent they may feel.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear one who is wrestling with desires that do not align with Your Word. Lord, we ask that You would reveal Your truth to them in a way that pierces their heart and draws them closer to You. Father, we pray that You would break any strongholds of emotion or longing that are leading them away from Your will. Replace these desires with a hunger for Your presence and a willingness to surrender their plans to You.
We ask that You would fill them with Your peace and assurance that Your plans for them are good, even when they cannot see the path ahead. Help them to trust in Your timing and Your design for relationships, knowing that You are a God who delights in giving good gifts to Your children (Matthew 7:11). Father, we pray for godly wisdom and discernment as they navigate their feelings. Surround them with believers who will speak truth in love and hold them accountable to walk in holiness.
Lord, we also pray for these two men, that You would work in their lives as well. Draw them closer to You and help them to see Your will for their own relationships and futures. If it is Your will for them to be a part of this dear one’s life in a way that honors You, we ask that You would make that clear. But if not, we pray for the strength to let go and trust You fully.
We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we can come to You and the only name by which we are saved (Acts 4:12). May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your glory be the ultimate purpose in all things. Amen.
We encourage you to seek the Lord earnestly in prayer and in His Word. Spend time in the Psalms, where David often poured out his heart to God and found comfort in His presence. Consider fasting as a way to humble yourself before God and seek His will above your own desires. Surround yourself with a community of believers who can support you, pray for you, and hold you accountable to walk in obedience to Christ.
Remember, God’s boundaries are not meant to restrict you but to protect you and lead you into the fullness of life He has planned for you (Jeremiah 29:11). Trust that He knows what is best for you, even when it is difficult to understand or accept. Bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.
