Her to be able to sleep at night

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I have not been able to ### since I was ### years old. Pretty much ### and trouble with ###. ### from ### and also ###.

We hear your cry for rest, dear one, and we lift you up before the Lord with heavy hearts. The inability to sleep night after night is a burden no soul should carry alone. The Scriptures remind us in Psalm 4:8, "In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety." Yet we know the enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, even the peace of sleep, when our minds and spirits are weighed down by past wounds, ongoing struggles, or unconfessed sin.

First, we must ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart. Are there areas where bitterness, unforgiveness, or hidden shame have taken root? Hebrews 12:15 warns, "Looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it." If there are relationships, past or present, that need reconciliation, or if there are sins you’ve not brought to the cross, we urge you to lay them bare before the Lord. Confession brings freedom, and freedom brings rest. 1 John 1:9 assures us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

We also rebuke the spirit of anxiety and torment that has stolen your sleep. The Lord did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). If your sleeplessness stems from trauma, abuse, or deep emotional pain, we declare healing over those wounds in Jesus’ name. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We pray for the Holy Spirit to comfort you, to bring to mind verses of truth to combat lies, and to fill you with His peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

If your struggle is physical, whether from chronic pain, hormonal imbalances, or other medical conditions, we pray for wisdom for doctors and for the Lord’s healing touch. Psalm 103:2-3 reminds us, "Praise Yahweh, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits; who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases." We stand on this promise and declare restoration to your body.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our sister who is weary and heavy-laden. Lord, You see her tossing and turning, her mind racing, her body exhausted. We ask You to minister to her in the watches of the night. Let her feel Your presence like a warm blanket, Your peace like a gentle lullaby. We rebuke every spirit of insomnia, anxiety, and torment in the mighty name of Jesus. We declare that her mind will be stayed on You, and that You will keep her in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3).

Father, if there are areas of her life that need repentance or healing, reveal them to her. Give her the courage to bring them to the cross and leave them there. We pray for physical healing, for hormonal balance, for pain to subside, and for her body to find its natural rhythm of rest. We ask for dreams of Your love and truth to fill her mind as she sleeps, and for angels to stand guard over her (Psalm 91:11).

Lord, we thank You that You neither slumber nor sleep (Psalm 121:4), and that You are her ever-present help in trouble. May she find her rest in You, knowing that You are working all things together for her good (Romans 8:28). We speak restoration over her sleep, her health, and her spirit. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

In the days ahead, we encourage you to:
1. Saturate your mind with Scripture, meditate on Psalm 23, Psalm 91, or Matthew 11:28-30 before bed. Let God’s Word be the last thing you dwell on.
2. Cast your cares on Him, write down your worries and anxieties, then physically hand them to the Lord in prayer. 1 Peter 5:7 says, "Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you."
3. Create a bedtime routine, turn off screens, play worship music, or read a devotional to signal to your body that it’s time to rest.
4. Seek godly counsel, if sleeplessness persists, consider talking to a pastor, Christian counselor, or doctor who can offer biblical and practical support.

Remember, the Lord is your Shepherd, you shall not want for rest. He makes you lie down in green pastures and leads you beside still waters (Psalm 23:2). Trust Him to guide you into the sleep you so desperately need. You are not forgotten; you are deeply loved.

We can hear how wearing this years-long battle with sleep has been, not just the restless nights, but the pain and the distressing memories that keep coming. It is a heavy weight, and we’re genuinely sorry you’re carrying it. You’ve been faithful to keep bringing this before God, and we want to stand with you now in that.

Many who have walked a similar road have found gentle worship music or hymns at bedtime a surprisingly steady comfort. Not as a quick fix, but as a way to quiet the mind by filling it with truth rather than with the replay of hurts or the awareness of pain. One woman we know of, alone in an ICU and terrified she wouldn’t make it, couldn’t sleep even with medication, until her family played her favorite tapes of Christian music. The familiar words anchored her, and her body finally let go. That might be something to try: a playlist of hymns or quiet songs that remind her she is held by the One who never sleeps.

If she hasn’t already, please encourage her to see a doctor. Ongoing pain and chronic sleeplessness often have physical contributors that deserve a trained look, not instead of prayer, but alongside it. We’ll be asking God for wisdom for any medical providers she sees.

And for the deeper wounds, the trauma and whatever fragments of the past keep intruding, healing is real. God is able to minister peace in the very places where the mind gets stuck, sometimes little by little, sometimes in a moment. We’ll pray that He would do that tender, gentle work in her.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You see this beloved daughter in the dark hours. Quiet her mind. Ease the pain. Untie the knots of old trauma that won’t let her rest. Give her sleep that restores, and fill her room with such a sense of Your presence that even the night becomes a safe place. Guide her to any practical help she needs, and let breakthrough come. In Your strong name.

Sleep that has fled since childhood is a heavy cross, yet there is a sleep that is the peculiar gift of God to His beloved. The body may lie restless, but the soul can know the quietness of being stayed upon Jehovah. He giveth His beloved sleep, not always the slumber of the eyelids, but the deep repose of the heart that trusts in Him. This is not the false peace of the devil, which is but a stupefying opiate that leaves the soul in peril; it is the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keeping the heart and mind through Christ Jesus.

The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, even when the darkness of the night presses hard and the memories of past trouble rise like specters. Submit yourself therefore to God. Have you yielded your judgment to His plain teachings? Have you bowed your will to His providential arrangements, even those that seem severe? The lack of settled peace often springs from a secret quarrel with our Maker, a holding back from full surrender. When the mind is irresolute, wavering between self-will and submission, anxiety breeds and sleep is driven far off. Let the Lord of peace Himself give you peace, He alone can breathe it into the storm-tossed spirit and lull it into that sweet sleep of the beloved which is Heaven’s own gift.

Consider whether your unrest may be the loving warning of the Holy Spirit against a peace that is no true peace. It is wanton cruelty to ourselves when we break away from the liberty of Christ to place ourselves under the tyranny of selfish passions or the remembrance of old sins unconfessed. Fly the haunts of past sin in memory and deed. Do not sleep as do others in the sloth of indifference, but awake to righteousness, and sin not. The sleep of security comes to those who are hidden in the wounds of Jesus; the sleep of a happy dismission, when the body rests at last, is the hope of all the saints. Even now, in the thick of the battle, He can give you rest, perfect peace in this dark world of sin, for to do the will of Jesus is rest. Cast yourself wholly upon Him, and He will keep you in peace, peace, whose mind is stayed on Him.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The very fact that sleep flees from you reveals the tyranny of care that has seized your mind. You have lain your head upon the pillow, but your thoughts rise up like a mob of accusers, dragging you from that haven which God in His mercy appointed for the healing of our race. He fashioned our bodies with this necessity, that even against our will we might be forced to rest, for sleep is the medicine of wounds and the solace of toils. Yet as you have discovered, a soul heavy with despondency and fear finds no harbor there. The noise within is louder than any thunder, and you spring up as though bound with ten thousand chains, while the one who lost everything might, after the first pang, lay his care aside.

Consider this: the Keeper of Israel does not slumber or sleep. While you are wakeful, He is wakeful. While you are tossed about, He is unshaken. To suffer your foot to be moved that is something that depends upon you, not upon any other power. If you would stand steadfast and unmoveable, you shall not be shaken. The terror that comes upon you in the night hours, the trouble that harasses you, is such that you feel yourself surrounded by wolves, exposed to a thousand bites. But it is precisely here that His might is shown forth when a sheep gets the better of wolves, and though in the midst of them, is so far from being consumed as to alter their whole spirit.

You have been enduring this sorrow since you were a child, and so the enemy has had many years to drive his falsehood deep into your soul. He substitutes a deceiving illusion for the truth, making the dark hours a theater of dread. But recall the prisoner in the inner dungeon: the earthquake came, the doors flew open, the chains fell off, and he who had been the instrument of torment fell trembling at the feet of his captive, crying out for deliverance. The very thing that seemed to seal his misery became the occasion of his freedom and salvation.

The true remedy is not found in any human device for coaxing sleep, but in heeding that invitation which is spoken to all who are in anxiety and sorrows: “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He does not merely promise to save you, but to place you in all security. When you entrust to Him the wrongs you have suffered and the fears that press upon you, you bring your load to One who asks no account of your sins, but desires only to do them away and give you repose.

Therefore, when night falls, do not consider how you might seize sleep for yourself as though it were a spoil to be won. Turn your mind instead to the God who has compassion on our toil-worn race. Commend your waking hours to Him as a sacrifice, saying, “I am Yours; keep me.” For there remains a rest for the people of God, a rest that begins even now in the soul that trusts Him entirely, and this rest the world’s anxieties cannot drive away.

The nights can feel long and lonely, especially when sleep has been difficult since childhood. You are not forgotten in those dark hours. There is a beautiful picture in Scripture of servants who bless the Lord by night, standing in His presence while the world sleeps. The God of Israel never slumbers, and His ears are open to every whispered prayer from your room.

What the enemy may have meant for isolation, our Father can use to draw you into a deeper fellowship with Him. Consider those restless moments an invitation to turn your bed into a quiet sanctuary. Pour out your heart, sing a soft song of praise, or simply breathe His name in the silence. Across the earth, as one time zone gives way to another, a constant stream of prayer rises before the throne, and your voice joins that holy chorus.

You do not need to strive for peace; you can simply rest your weight on the One who keeps you. He hushed the storm on the sea, and He can calm the turmoil in your spirit. Ask Him to enfold you in that perfect peace that makes no sense to the natural mind, and after you have cast every fear and memory upon Him, trust Him to sustain you through the night watches. He gives His beloved rest, and He will be your safe harbor until the morning light.
