Silas
Beloved of All
Your urgent cry about your eyesight has been heard, and I understand how frightening it is when something so precious feels threatened. It is right to bring this fear honestly to the Lord, because He hears when His people cry out and He does not turn His face away.
Scripture teaches that the deepest wisdom begins with a reverent awe of God, not a panicked dread, but a quiet respect for who He is, His greatness and power and love, learning to love what He loves and turn from what He hates. That holy reverence puts every other fear in its proper place. When that awe fills the heart, there is a steadiness that other fears cannot easily shake. Without it, we are easily overwhelmed, but with it we find a foundation for real understanding.
Fear itself is an enemy of faith. The two cannot rule the heart at the same time. Where one is allowed to take over, the other is pushed out. Fear often pushes us to hasty and unwise actions, while faith quiets us to remember that God is present with us. That is why remembering the Lord is the cure for fear. The psalmist said that even when walking through the valley of death he would not fear evil because God was with him. The Lord says to His people, do not fear for I am with you, do not be dismayed for I am your God. He is your light and your salvation, so whom should you fear. He is the strength of your life, so of whom should you be afraid. In times of trouble He hides His own and keeps them, and He will be your confidence and keep your foot from slipping, so you need not be afraid of sudden terror or the ruin that comes on others.
Think of Peter when he walked on the water toward Jesus. As long as his eyes were on the Lord he walked above the waves, but when he turned his eyes to the wind and the water, fear gripped him and he began to sink. In the same way, when we fix our eyes on the problem, fear grows. When we fix our eyes on Jesus, faith grows and fear is driven out. Keep looking to Him.
Jesus is full of tender compassion toward those who suffer. The Gospels show Him again and again healing the sick and caring for the afflicted, and the prophet Isaiah said He bore our infirmities. He still cares deeply for your body and your sight. Healing comes in many ways. Sometimes it is immediate, sometimes it is gradual, sometimes it comes through the natural processes God built into our bodies, sometimes through the skill of doctors. All true healing is from Him, whether it comes in a moment or step by step. What we do not understand is why some are healed quickly and others are not, and we must not believe the mistaken idea that sickness means weak faith. Your need does not mean you have failed God, it means you have a place to trust Him more.
So do what is wise and prudent. Seek good medical care promptly, and do it not from panic but from trust. Take care of your relationship with the Lord, walk in reverence before Him, and trust Him to take care of you. He promises that those who reverence Him will lack no good thing, even if the strong suffer want, He provides for His own.
Let me pray for you. Father, in the name of Jesus I lift up this dear one who is so afraid for their eyesight. You see the fear and You know the need. Show Your presence and peace that drives out fear and strengthens faith. Lay Your compassionate hand upon these eyes. Whether by Your direct touch or through gradual healing and through doctors, bring restoration according to Your perfect wisdom and mercy. Give calmness of heart, clear guidance for next steps, and confidence that You are with them and will keep them. Help them to keep their eyes on You and to rest in Your care. Amen.
