Help

We hear your cry and we join with you in seeking the Lord's wisdom about whether to stay or to go back home, and about this deep desire to be free from stress and worry. We know how heavy that burden can feel and how much you long for peace and rest.

The Word of God speaks directly to this kind of anxiety and tells us that true freedom from worry does not come simply from changing our location, though at times God does lead us to move, but from casting our cares on Him. We are told in Philippians 4:6-7, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. And again in 1 Peter 5:7, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. Jesus Himself invites us in Matthew 11:28-30, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. We also take comfort in Psalm 55:22, Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

When you ask what should you do and if it is time to leave, we encourage you not to make a decision only out of a desire to escape stress, but to seek the Lord's clear direction. We are taught in Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. We urge you to bring this decision before Him in earnest prayer, to seek counsel from mature believers who know you and your situation, and to consider your responsibilities and the open and closed doors He is providing. Sometimes going home is the right and godly step, and sometimes God calls us to remain and walk through the difficulty while He strengthens us and provides His peace right where we are. He promises in Isaiah 41:10, Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you.

We also noticed your prayer did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find true peace and salvation. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for when we belong to Him we can bring every worry and every decision to God with confidence.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son and we lift up this dear one who is burdened with stress and worry and is asking for wisdom about leaving and going home. Lord we ask that You would pour out Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Help them to cast every care on You because You care for them. Give them clear wisdom and discernment, make their path straight, and show them whether to stay or to go according to Your perfect will and not merely according to a desire to escape. Strengthen them, sustain them, and remind them that You are with them wherever they are. Draw them closer to Jesus and let them find rest for their soul in Him. We ask that Your will be done in their life and that You would be glorified in their decision. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

We hear how tired you feel under all this stress and worry, and how much you are wanting relief and a clear direction about whether to stay or go home. That question of leaving is a big one, and it makes sense it feels heavier when you are already worn down.

When we are under ongoing stress it is hard to think clearly, and major decisions can feel more urgent than they are. We have found it helps to slow down and not decide alone in the moment of greatest pressure. It can help to talk it through with someone you trust who knows you and your situation well, perhaps a pastor, counselor, or mature friend or family member, who can help you weigh what going home would mean practically, relationally and spiritually, and what staying would require.

It also helps to care for the basics while you seek wisdom. Regular sleep, steady meals, time with the Lord, and a break from extra pressures give you more room to hear clearly. If worry is making it hard to sleep, work or function day to day, it is good to reach out to a counselor or your doctor alongside prayer, not instead of it.

Father, we lift our friend to You right now. You see the stress and the longing for peace and the uncertainty about the next step. Grant wisdom, steady rest and trusted counsel, and lead step by step as You promise to be near. Give clarity about home and the strength for today. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your cry for freedom from stress and worry has been heard, and there is a word from the Lord that meets you in this very place. The prophet speaks a promise for such an hour as yours, "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You." That peace is not found in changing your location alone, though a change may at times be right, but in fixing your mind upon Christ and trusting His keeping power.

True peace is not the mere lull of anxiety or the escape from duty. It is peace with God through the blood of Jesus Christ, and then peace in the conscience flowing from it. Our Lord Jesus says, "My peace I give unto you." It is His own peace, bought with His blood, wrought in the soul by His Spirit. When the heart is reconciled to God through faith in Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we can be saved, then even with sorrows surging round and duties pressing, there can be calm within because we rest on Jesus' bosom.

You ask, what should you do, and whether you should leave and go back home. Hear also this word of our Savior, "Do not be anxious." Be prudent and do your best with what God has given you, but do not let your mind be tossed into fretfulness and distress. I have found, and you may have found, that the very anxiety which comes from being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. To worry in your own strength brings no good. To tell it to the Lord in prayer does.

Scripture says, "Thou shalt guide me with Thy counsel." The Lord guides His people, and He does so often by great principles infused in the heart, by His Word, by a willingness to bow with submission to His will, and by godly counsel. Haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life. Therefore do not make a hurried decision while your spirit is stirred with care. Wait upon the Lord. Seek His face earnestly. Ask Him to show you what is the holy and wise path, to avoid everything that is evil and to do that which honors Him.

If you are far from home, remember that in Jesus' keeping we are safe, and so are our loved ones. Whether you stay or return, you may have perfect peace in this dark world of sin, for the blood of Jesus whispers peace within. Let your first seeking be after Christ Himself, not merely after relief. Seek Christ first, and peace will come next. Keep your mind stayed on Him through the Scriptures and prayer, cast your care upon Him, and seek the counsel of wise and faithful believers who know you and can help you weigh this decision before God.

May the Lord grant you wisdom to discern His guidance, faith to trust Him fully, and that peace which passes all understanding to guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. May He lead you step by step, and keep you in perfect peace as you trust in Him.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

May the Lord guide them in the decision to leave and return home, granting freedom from stress and worry, for He says, "Be still, and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10). May they cast all anxiety on Him who cares (1 Peter 5:7) and trust His leading, through Jesus Christ. Amen.

You have asked an honest and weighty question, and God hears the cry behind it for relief from stress and worry. Like the woman who came crying, Have mercy on me, and like the man who had waited thirty eight years by the pool, what the Lord first looks for is not a quick escape but a persevering heart that comes to Him and tells Him the whole need.

Wanting to be free from stress and worry is understandable, but a change of place by itself does not give peace. Scripture teaches that true peace is found in Jesus Christ alone, who did not merely send help from afar but took on flesh and draws near to us in our affliction. He is the fellow traveler with you whether you stay or go, and He often uses difficult seasons to confirm faith and draw us closer to Himself, as He did when He left His own country to be present with those in Cana.

For that reason it is wise not to make a major decision about leaving or going back home while your mind is ruled only by the desire to escape pressure. Stress can cloud judgment, and even the disciples were exceeding sorry when they heard of the coming cross, though the resurrection was near. Sorrow in the moment does not always show what God is doing.

What should you do now is to bring this very question to the Lord in steady prayer, asking not only for relief but for wisdom and for His will to be done. Bring it also to the Word of God, and to mature and faithful counsel in your church, people who know you and can help you weigh your responsibilities, your commitments, and the consequences of either staying or leaving. If you have made vows, such as the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, or other duties before God, those are to be honored and not set aside simply because they feel heavy. If you are living in a situation that Scripture calls outside of God's design, the path to peace is not to ask Him to bless that situation, but to turn to Him for forgiveness and for strength to walk in obedience.

Consider these steps as you pray: set aside time each day to cast your anxieties on Christ, write down the reasons you feel led to leave and the reasons to stay and test them against Scripture, seek counsel from a pastor or wise believers, and do not act in haste. God often shows His care not by immediately removing the trial, but by giving perseverance within it.

We will pray for you, that God will give you clarity, endurance, and the peace that comes through trust in Christ, and that He will guide your steps so that what you do next is done in faith, in wisdom, and in obedience to Him.
