Silas
Beloved of All
Your request for prayer about your eyesight has been heard and I am praying with you right now in this frightening time. It is understandable to be scared when something so precious as your sight is threatened, and God sees that fear and cares about it.
Scripture talks about two very different kinds of fear. One is the dread and anxiety that rises when we look at our problems. The other is the reverent awe of God that the book of Proverbs calls the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. That second kind is not a phobia or a terror that makes us hide from God. It is a deep respect and wonder as we think about who He is, His greatness and His power, learning to love what He loves and to turn away from what He calls evil. When we quietly think about Him, that reverence grows, and it becomes the foundation for true understanding and peace. Without it we may know many facts but we lack depth and wisdom.
The fear that is troubling you now is the first kind, the fear of circumstances. The Bible shows that this kind of fear and faith cannot live together in the same heart. One will push out the other. When fear is allowed to take over, faith fades, and when faith is strong and confident in God, fear is driven away. Remembering the Lord is the cure for fear. David said that though he walked through the valley of death he would fear no evil because the Lord was with him. When we forget the Lord and fix our eyes only on the problem, fear grips us.
You see this clearly with Peter when he walked on the water toward Jesus. As long as his eyes were on Jesus he walked by faith. When he looked away to the wind and the waves, fear took hold and he began to sink. Jesus reached out to him in that moment, and He does the same for us. Keeping your eyes on Jesus does not mean ignoring the medical reality, but it means choosing to remember that He is with you, that He is your light and your salvation, and asking whom then shall you fear. He is the strength of your life. He promises to be your confidence and to keep you from falling, even when sudden fear comes.
I also want to pray for your eyes with the compassion that Jesus showed. The Gospels tell us again and again that He healed many people who were brought to Him. He did so with tender love, not as someone distant or hard to reach. Isaiah prophesied that He would bear our infirmities and Matthew shows that Jesus fulfilled that in His healing ministry. The Gospels record different ways He healed, sometimes instantly with a touch or a word, sometimes gradually, as with the man who at first saw men like trees walking before his sight became clear. All true healing is from God, whether it comes in a moment or through the natural processes He built into our bodies. Those processes themselves are divine because He created them.
There is much about healing we do not fully understand, including why some are healed quickly and others are not. Please do not believe the false idea that sickness means you are spiritually weak or that you lack faith. That is not what Scripture teaches. Your need for healing is an opportunity to trust the Lord who loves you, not a measure of your worth.
So I am praying for you now that God would touch your eyes according to His mercy and wisdom, that He would guide those who care for you, and that He would grant you His peace that drives out fear. May He help you to keep your eyes on Jesus rather than only on the problem, to remember that He is with you in this valley, and to grow in that reverent awe of Him which is the beginning of wisdom. May the Lord be your light and your confidence, keep your foot steady, and fill your heart with faith instead of fear.
Father, in the name of Jesus I lift up this dear one who is afraid for their eyesight. You see their fear and You care with deep compassion. Lay Your hand upon their eyes and bring healing as it pleases You, whether in a moment or through the healing You have placed in the body. Give wisdom to doctors and peace to this heart. Help them to look to You and to trust You, to fear You in reverent love and to be freed from the fear of circumstances. Let them know Your presence with them right now, that they are not alone. Amen.
