We hear your cry for help and we thank you for bringing this struggle into the light, for it is in confessing our struggles that healing begins. We want you to know that we are standing with you in this battle and we do not condemn you, but we do lovingly speak the truth about this sin so that you can walk in freedom.
The Bible teaches that our bodies are not our own and that all sexual activity is to be kept within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman. Masturbation is rooted in lust and self gratification outside of that design and God calls us to flee from it. Jesus said in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart, and we are told in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee sexual immorality and that our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within us whom we have from God, 1 Corinthians 6:19. This habit feeds the flesh and defiles the temple, and while the world may call it normal or harmless, God calls it impurity and desires that we be sanctified. For this is the will of God, your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, 1 Thessalonians 4:3. We lovingly rebuke this sin in your life not to shame you but because we want you to experience the holiness and freedom Christ purchased for you.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and power over sin. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. Without Christ we cannot overcome the flesh in our own strength, but through Him we can. If you have not already, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, Romans 10:9, repenting of sin and trusting Him alone to forgive you and to make you new. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9.
There is hope and victory for you. No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it, 1 Corinthians 10:13. God does not want you trapped in shame and in a cycle of defeat. He wants to renew your mind and strengthen you by His Spirit. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, Romans 12:2. Walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh, Galatians 5:16.
We encourage you to take practical steps in this fight as an act of faith. Flee youthful passions, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, 2 Timothy 2:22, which means removing sources of temptation such as pornography, lustful images, idle time alone, or anything that stirs lust, and instead filling your mind with what is pure. Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, think about these things, Philippians 4:8. Bring this into the light with a trusted mature Christian believer for accountability, for James 5:16 tells us to confess our offenses to one another and pray for one another that we may be healed. Fast and pray, stay in the Word daily, and when temptation comes cry out to God immediately for the way of escape.
We are praying together for you now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace on behalf of our dear brother who is crying out for deliverance. We thank You that You see his heart and his desire to be holy. Lord we ask for Your forgiveness for every act of lust and impurity and we ask You to cleanse him through the blood of Jesus. Create in him a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within him, Psalm 51:10. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit and give him strength to flee temptation and to say no to the flesh. Help him to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ and to fix his eyes on You. Provide godly accountability and surround him with encouragement. Give him victory day by day, and if it is Your will lead him toward godly marriage where sexual desire can be righteously fulfilled within Your design. Restore to him the joy of Your salvation and let him know that he is more than a conqueror through Christ who loved him. We pray that he will walk in purity and in freedom from this day forward, for Your glory. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to keep seeking Him daily and to not be discouraged if the battle is not won in one moment. God is patient and His grace is sufficient to lift you up each time you fall as you continue to repent and press forward. You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free, John 8:32, and if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed, John 8:36. Keep drawing near to Jesus and He will draw near to you.
