We hear the deep anguish in your heart, and we stand with you before the throne of grace, where mercy and help are always found in time of need. The struggle you describe is not uncommon, but it is serious, for it grieves the Holy Spirit and defiles the temple of God, which you are. The Bible warns us clearly: "Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." (1 Corinthians 6:18-20 WEB). Pornography and masturbation are forms of sexual immorality, lust of the eyes and flesh, and they distort God’s holy design for intimacy, which is reserved solely for the marriage covenant between a man and a woman.
You are not alone in this battle. Even the apostle Paul cried out, "For I don’t know what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do... For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’t find it doing that which is good. For the good which I desire, I don’t do; but the evil which I don’t desire, that I practice." (Romans 7:15, 18-19 WEB). Yet Paul did not remain in despair, he turned to Christ, who alone has the power to break every chain. You have already taken the first and most important step: you have confessed your sin and are seeking deliverance. That is not weakness, it is the beginning of true strength in Christ.
Let us be clear: your struggle is not because God has abandoned you, nor is it because prayer or fasting has failed. The enemy wants you to believe that victory is impossible, that you are too far gone, that your heart will never change. But that is a lie. "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." (1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB). The way of escape is not in your own strength, but in Christ’s finished work on the cross and the power of the Holy Spirit within you.
We must also address the deeper issue: this sin has not only affected your body, it has affected your soul. It has dulled your spiritual senses, weakened your hunger for God, and created a cycle of shame that keeps you isolated. But God is calling you not just to stop sinning, but to be transformed. "Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God." (Romans 12:2 WEB). This transformation comes through feeding on God’s Word, not the lies of the enemy. It comes through fellowship with believers who can walk with you in accountability and prayer. It comes through replacing the empty promises of lust with the satisfying love of Christ.
You mentioned that you no longer know how to pray. Let us tell you: prayer is not about perfection, it is about honesty before God. The psalmist cried out, "Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. Don’t throw me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation. Uphold me with a willing spirit." (Psalm 51:10-12 WEB). That is a prayer God always hears. You do not need eloquent words, you need a broken and contrite heart. And that, God will not despise.
We also want to gently but firmly rebuke the spirit of shame that has kept you in bondage. Shame says, "You are too far gone. God could never love you like this." But the gospel says, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." (Romans 8:1 WEB). You are not defined by your sin, you are defined by the blood of Jesus, which cleanses you from all unrighteousness. When you confess your sin, God is faithful and just to forgive you and cleanse you (1 John 1:9). That is not a license to sin, it is the power to live free.
Now, let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can stand before You. We lift up our brother who is struggling under the weight of sexual sin and shame. Lord, You see his heart, You know the years of battle, the tears shed in secret, the prayers lifted in desperation. We ask that You would break every chain of addiction, every lie of the enemy, and every stronghold of lust that has taken root in his mind and heart.
Father, we declare that the blood of Jesus is sufficient to cleanse him from all unrighteousness. Wash him anew, Lord, and restore the joy of his salvation. Create in him a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within him. Let him not be mastered by sin, but let him walk in the freedom that Christ purchased on the cross.
We rebuke the spirit of shame and condemnation in Jesus’ name. We declare that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Lord, help him to see himself as You see him, redeemed, forgiven, and deeply loved. Let him not be isolated in this battle, but surround him with godly men who can walk with him in accountability and truth.
Father, ignite in him a fresh hunger for Your Word. Let him meditate on it day and night, so that he may be like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding fruit in season. Replace the empty promises of lust with the satisfying love of Christ. Let him taste and see that You are good, and that nothing in this world can compare to the joy of knowing You.
We pray for deliverance, Lord, not just from the act of sin, but from the desires that lead to it. Transform his mind, renew his thoughts, and let him walk in the Spirit so that he will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. Give him the strength to flee temptation, to turn his eyes away from worthless things, and to fix his gaze on You.
And Lord, we ask that You would restore to him the first love he had when he was born again. Let him long for You as the deer pants for water. Let him thirst for righteousness, and let him be filled. May his heart burn with passion for Your kingdom, and may he run the race with endurance, looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of his faith.
We pray all of this in the powerful, victorious name of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Now, brother, we urge you to take these practical steps:
1. Accountability: Find a trusted, godly man, perhaps a pastor, elder, or mature Christian brother, and confess your struggle to him. James 5:16 says, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed." You cannot fight this battle alone. The enemy thrives in secrecy, but light exposes darkness.
2. Guard Your Eyes and Mind: Job said, "I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then should I look lustfully at a young woman?" (Job 31:1 WEB). Install filters on your devices, avoid triggers, and flee from temptation the moment it arises. Do not entertain lustful thoughts, take them captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).
3. Fill Your Mind with Truth: Replace the lies of pornography with the truth of God’s Word. Memorize Scripture that speaks to your struggle, such as Psalm 119:9-11, Philippians 4:8, and Galatians 5:16. Meditate on these verses daily.
4. Fast from Media: Consider a fast from all forms of media that feed lust, social media, movies, music, or anything that stirs impure thoughts. Use that time to pray, read the Bible, and worship.
5. Pursue Holiness, Not Just Abstinence: Victory is not just about stopping the sin, it is about becoming more like Christ. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness (1 Timothy 6:11). Serve others, get involved in your church, and use your gifts for God’s kingdom.
6. Worship and Prayer: When temptation comes, turn to worship. Put on worship music, pray in the Spirit, and fix your eyes on Jesus. The more you behold Him, the less you will desire the things of this world.
7. Remember Your Identity in Christ: You are not a slave to sin, you are a son of God, bought with the blood of Christ. You have been set free, and whom the Son sets free is free indeed (John 8:36). Walk in that freedom.
Finally, do not lose heart. The road to deliverance is often a process, not an instant miracle. But God is faithful, and He will complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6). You are not fighting for victory, you are fighting from victory. Christ has already won the battle. Now, stand firm in His strength, and let Him lead you into freedom.
We will continue to pray for you, and we encourage you to reach out to your local church for support. You are not alone in this. The body of Christ is here to lift you up, and our Heavenly Father is waiting with open arms to restore you. Keep pressing into Him. Your breakthrough is coming.
