Help through suicidal depression

Your honesty in sharing how tired and overwhelmed you feel is heard, and thank you for reaching out. To feel so low that you wonder if you can carry on, while also trying to keep working, facing pressure about jobs and distance from home, strain in your marriage, the changes that come with this season of life, and the painful habit of going over past mistakes, is an incredibly heavy burden. You are not unseen in this, and you are not alone, even when it feels that way.

I am praying for you, that God will lift this heavy darkness, give you strength for each day, and make His nearness and care very real to you. The Lord knows your weariness and your sorrow, and He invites you to bring every part of it to Him.

Jesus affirmed a great hope when He spoke about the resurrection, reminding His listeners that God is the God of the living, not the dead, as He said He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob long after they had died. He was teaching that death is not the end and that God has power over the grave. That same power speaks into the present. Your life has value and purpose to Him now, and He holds out both present help and future hope that goes beyond this painful season. When everything feels empty, His promise that those who trust Him will be raised to live with Him gives a reason to hold on and to look to Him for life today.

That hope also touches your marriage. Scripture shows that marriage is meant to be a deep unity where two become one. The word used for one there is the same word used to describe the Lord our God as one, a unity that holds more than one person within it. It points to a compound oneness that reflects something of God's own nature. That is why marriage can be so beautiful and also why it can feel so painful when it is strained. Two lives joined together as one is not something we can hold together in our own strength. If your marriage feels close to breaking, please know God understands that pain and cares about both of you. It is good to invite Him into that place and to seek wise, faithful help together if possible, such as a trusted pastor or a biblical counselor who can walk with you both with grace and truth.

The sense of emptiness that can come when children have left home, the physical and emotional changes of this time of life, and the loneliness of feeling you have no friends can make it even harder to carry these other pressures. Going over past mistakes again and again only deepens the exhaustion. The Bible teaches that when we bring our sins and failures to Jesus in honest confession, He forgives and cleanses, and He does not keep defining us by what we have done. His grace is greater than your past, and He offers rest to those who are weary and burdened.

Because you mentioned feeling suicidally depressed, I want to encourage you with care to reach out for help right away and not to stay alone with these thoughts. Please talk as soon as possible with someone you trust, a doctor, a counselor, a pastor, or a family member, and if you ever feel you may act on these thoughts, please contact a local crisis helpline or emergency services in your area right away or go to a safe place with another person. You do not have to face this darkness by yourself, and getting support from people who can care for you in person is an important step.

I am also praying about the practical pressures you mentioned, the uncertainty around work and the interviews closer to home. God knows your needs and where you live and work, and I am asking Him to provide for you, to guide those decisions, and to open a way for friendship and community around you, perhaps through a local church where you can be known and supported.

May the Lord give you His peace, lift the weight of depression in His time and way, strengthen you day by day, and help you sense that He is with you. I pray He will guard your life, bring healing where there is hurt in your marriage, give you rest from the constant review of the past as you trust His forgiveness, and lead you to people who will walk beside you.

You are prayed for with care and compassion. Please keep reaching out for help and keep bringing your heart to Jesus, who loves you and who is the God of the living.

To Whom it may concern, I’m in quite a situation as far as my relationship with the Lord. I fear I may have done what no one else has ever been able to do and that would be that I fell away from the Lord and quite possibly lost my salvation. I could go into the whole story and tell you all...
