Your honest cry about bills far exceeding income is heard, and God knows the weight of that pressure. Financial reverses can feel like deep waters that threaten to swallow you, and the anxiety of watching needs grow while resources do not is very real.
Scripture shows that God cares about these hardships and also knows how to make provision where there seems to be no way. In the old law there was even a detailed process for a person with an incurable disease to be declared clean, which left room for God to do a miracle if He chose to heal. That reminds us not to put God in a box. When a situation looks impossible by human calculation, we can still give Him room to work as He desires, trusting that He is able to help and to heal and to provide.
God also shows us in His Word that He often provides through ordinary means that He blesses. The early believers shared with one another when some among them were in great poverty, and the apostle Paul himself worked with his own hands so he would not be a burden and so he could help others. God can provide for you through work, through wise stewardship, through the generosity of others, and through unexpected answers to prayer. James reminds us you have not because you ask not, and God invites you to bring every need to Him, spiritual, physical and financial, and to ask for wisdom.
There is also a sober warning in Scripture that the borrower is slave to the lender. Much of the system around us encourages going hopelessly into debt with promises that things will satisfy, but debt can quickly become a heavy slavery and God does not want His people trapped that way. If you are able, seek godly counsel for a simple plan to live within what God has entrusted to you, to avoid taking on more debt, and to be faithful with little while you ask Him for more. Putting on the Lord Jesus Christ and making no provision for the desires of the flesh includes choosing contentment and discipline over impulses that lead deeper into bondage.
Above all, remember that God has made one true and lasting provision for your greatest need, which is forgiveness and peace with Him through His Son Jesus Christ. When you have that provision, you can come to your Father with confidence about every other need. He knows you need food and clothing and shelter, and Jesus taught to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and to trust Him for daily provision.
Years of hardship and just trying to get by can feel wasted, but God can use even those seasons to prepare and teach and deepen trust in Him. He does not waste your struggle.
Let me pray for you. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ I bring this dear one to You. You see the bills and the limited income and the worry that comes with it. Provide for every need according to Your riches, give wisdom for every decision, open doors for honest work and help, and guard from the slavery of debt. Give peace that passes understanding and a deeper trust in Your care. Above all, assure this heart of forgiveness and new life through Jesus, and help each step to be walked by Your Spirit. Amen.
