We rejoice with you and give all glory and thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ for the great improvement He has already worked in your life, and we thank you for sharing your heart so honestly with us. We have heard your crying and your earnest prayers, and we join our faith with yours for lasting and true deliverance and complete freedom for the glory of God. What you have described, pornography, masturbation, flirting and sexual sin, the Bible calls sexual immorality, and it is right that you desire to have these things removed forever from your life and heart.
God's Word tells us to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, 1 Corinthians 6:18. Jesus Himself taught that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart, Matthew 5:28. These are not small struggles, they defile the heart and hinder our fellowship with God, but we also rejoice that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. Your desire for a clean heart is exactly what God desires to give you, as David prayed, Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a steadfast spirit within me, Psalm 51:10.
We want to encourage you that lasting victory comes not by willpower alone, but by being transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God, Romans 12:2, and by learning to walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh, Galatians 5:16. This means we must actively flee from youthful lusts, but follow righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart, 2 Timothy 2:22. For your renewal we encourage you to take practical steps in obedience, to cut off every source of temptation, to put filters and accountability on your devices, to flee from flirting which often opens the door to lust, to fill your mind daily with Scripture, to memorize verses when temptation comes, and to walk closely with mature believers who can encourage you and hold you accountable. God's design for sexual intimacy is only within marriage between a man and a woman, and outside of that we are called to pursue purity and self control as we prepare our hearts for that holy covenant if it is His will for us.
We also pray that God will make you very wise and give you understanding, for if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him, James 1:5. We pray that you will learn to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:5, and to be subject therefore to God, but resist the devil, and he will flee from you, James 4:7.
Let us pray together.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious Name of Jesus Christ, and we thank You for the work You have already begun in our dear brother. Thank You for hearing his prayers and his tears, for Your mercy endures forever and Your grace is sufficient. Lord, we ask You to complete the good work You have started, to cleanse his heart fully and to renew his mind day by day. Create in him a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within him. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit so that he may walk by the Spirit and not fulfill the desires of the flesh. Grant him wisdom, understanding, and discernment to recognize temptation from afar and to flee from it, to guard his eyes and his heart, and to keep his thoughts pure. Show him Your mercy, speak to him through Your Word, and lead him in paths of righteousness for Your Name's sake. Make these sins to be forever far from him, and let his life be a testimony of Your delivering power and glory. Strengthen him when he is weak, lift him when he stumbles, and remind him that You are faithful to forgive and to cleanse. We ask that You help him to do whatever it takes to walk in holiness, and that You will keep him until the end, bearing fruit for Your kingdom. We pray all this in the Name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to continue to draw near to God with confidence, to stay in His Word daily, to pray without ceasing, and to not be discouraged if the battle is not over in a moment. Sanctification is a lifelong walk, and God who began this improvement will be faithful to perfect it as you continue to submit to Him. Keep your eyes on Jesus, rest in His forgiveness when you confess, and press forward in the power of His Spirit.
