Heavy burdens

We hear the heaviness in your cry and we join with you before our Father to seek His healing and release in Jesus' name. You have asked in Jesus' high name and we rejoice that you know it is only through Him that we have access to the throne of grace, for there is no other name by which we can be saved and find mercy.

The Lord sees the burden you have carried from childhood and He does not want you to carry it alone any longer. Jesus says, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30. We are also told, Cast your burden on Yahweh and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22 and casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7. Your childhood wounds, whatever was done to you or whatever was left undone, are known fully to Him and He is the One who heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3.

We also hear you confess the heavy burden of unforgiveness and we want to gently and lovingly address this with you, because unforgiveness itself becomes a prison that keeps our own hearts heavy. It does not excuse what was done to you, but it releases you into God's hands for justice and healing. Scripture is clear that we are to let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:31-32. And, Even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Colossians 3:13. Jesus also taught, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:14-15. This is not to condemn you but to show you how vital it is to release those who hurt you, so that you may be fully free and fully forgiven yourself.

Forgiveness is not a feeling that comes first, it is an act of obedience and trust that God will then heal the feelings in His time. It is choosing to hand the person and the pain over to God and no longer requiring repayment.

So we pray with you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one to You. You know every memory, every wound, every tear from childhood that still weighs heavy today. We ask that You take this heavy burden and lift it off. We ask that You reveal Yourself as Father to the fatherless, as Comforter to the wounded, and as Healer to the brokenhearted. Pour out Your love where there was hurt, Your acceptance where there was rejection, and Your peace where there has been turmoil.

Lord, we ask for grace to forgive. We confess before You that unforgiveness has been carried for so long and we ask You to forgive us for holding onto it. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, enable this dear one to forgive those who caused childhood pain, just as You in Christ have forgiven us so freely. Help to release them fully into Your hands for Your justice and Your mercy. Take away the root of bitterness and replace it with tenderness and freedom.

We pray that You will renew the mind and heart day by day, that the past will no longer define the present, but that this life will be lived as a new creation in Christ. We claim Your promise, Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10. Let Your rest fill this soul and let Your joy be restored.

We thank You that You are already at work and that You will complete the healing You have begun. We trust this burden into Your caring hands and we ask all this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus, our Savior and Burden Bearer. Amen.

We encourage you to keep casting that burden on Him daily in prayer, to speak forgiveness out loud before God even when the feelings still hurt, and to stay in His Word where He will gently renew you. If possible, seek a trusted pastor or mature Christian counselor who can walk with you and pray with you consistently. God is faithful and He will not leave this burden on you forever.

We hear how heavy this burden has felt for you, carrying things from childhood and the weight of unforgiveness. Thank you for bringing it honestly before the Lord and asking us to pray with you.

One thing we have found helpful to understand is that forgiveness often happens in two parts. There is a decision we make to release the debt and to stop holding on to revenge or avoidance, and then there is the slower healing of the emotions underneath, the resentment, bitterness, and fear that can build up over years. Making the decision is important, but the feelings do not always lift right away. It is normal for that emotional healing to take time, especially when the hurts go back to childhood, and it does not mean you have failed.

If it would help, you might set aside a quiet moment to simply name before God what still feels heavy, and tell Him you want to choose His way of forgiveness even while your heart is still healing. You do not have to sort through it all at once or alone. If childhood wounds feel overwhelming, it can help to walk through them with one safe, trusted pastor or Christian counselor who can listen and pray with you over time.

Father, we lift our brother to You and ask for Your gentle healing in these deep places. Take this heavy burden and replace it with Your peace as he walks with You day by day. Give him wisdom, rest, and the assurance that he is loved and held by You. Lead him toward wholeness in Your time and way. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your cry concerning the heavy burden of childhood and the weight of unforgiveness has been heard and has been carried to the throne of grace, and we join with you in prayer before our Lord Jesus Christ.

The burden you describe is one that many souls know too well. The remembrance of early wounds and the burden of a heart that has not yet been able to forgive can lie heavier than any outward affliction. Scripture tells us that every man shall bear his own burden, and that the burden of our fallen nature and of sin is the heaviest of all. Yet the same Word tells us to bear one another's burdens, and so we would help you to bear this burden in prayer, while pointing you to the One who alone can bear the burden of sin for you.

It was the sin that was the heaviest burden of the man taken with palsy, and the Savior, the great Reader of Thoughts, knew it. He did not first say, Rise up and walk, but He began by saying, Man, your sins are forgiven you. The pardon of sin came in a single sentence, swifter than the lightning flash, when the sinner lay hoping and believing at the feet of Jesus. So it is with you. When Jesus forgives, healing follows, for pardon and healing are one in His hand. He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds, and even the leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing, and His blood is the great conduit from which abundant streams of healing flow down to men below.

You have asked that God would take away this heavy burden. Hear the gracious invitation of Christ Himself, My yoke is easy and My burden is light. When you come to Christ and get rid of your old burden, He puts upon you His burden, and you stay with Him and learn of Him till you prove that His yoke is easy. Your burden is easy to bear when Christ is with you, when He strengthens you with all strength in your inner man and puts into you His own power to be your succor. Then the burden ceases to be a burden any longer. Cast your burden upon Him, for He will bear it. Open your heart before Him, and He will heal it.

We pray for you now that the Lord, who is the Sun of Righteousness with healing in His wings, would meet you as you seek Him. May He grant you first the full forgiveness of your own sins through faith in Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we must be saved, and then may that forgiven heart be made able to forgive as you have been forgiven. May He purge the wounds of childhood and make your nature other than it was before, changing the life blood and giving freshness even as those in Heaven owe their brightness to these healing leaves. May He lift the weight that has troubled you and give you rest in learning of Him.

We will continue to bear this burden with you in prayer, asking the Great Physician not only to point out the disease but to apply the remedy at Calvary, where healing and pardon are placed in happy conjunction for all who look to Him.
