Heavenly Father

We join you in this simple but profound prayer for change and we thank you for calling upon the name of Jesus, for it is through Him alone that we have access to the Father and it is in His mighty name that transformation is possible.

We hear your heart crying out for both yourself and the other person you mentioned to be changed, and this desire itself is pleasing to God, for He desires to make us new and to conform us to the image of His Son. Change that honors God is not merely trying harder in our own strength, but allowing Him to renew us from the inside out.

The Scripture tells us, Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God Romans 12:2. And also, Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new 2 Corinthians 5:17. God promises, I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you Ezekiel 36:26. This is the work He wants to do in both of you.

We pray together now for this change.

Heavenly Father, we come before Your throne of grace in the mighty name of Jesus and we lift up these two lives to You. Lord, You know the areas where change is needed even when words are few. We ask that You search both hearts and reveal what needs to be surrendered to You. Renew their minds by Your Word and by Your Holy Spirit. Create in them clean hearts and steadfast spirits. Help them to turn from anything that does not please You and to walk in obedience, humility, and love. Give them strength to put off the old self and to put on the new self which is created in righteousness and true holiness. We trust that You who began a good work in them will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ Philippians 1:6. Let Your will be done in their lives and let this change bring glory to You. In Jesus mighty name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him daily through prayer and through reading His Word, for His mercies are new every morning and great is His faithfulness Lamentations 3:23. Be patient with the process, for God often changes us step by step as we abide in Christ. Confess your need to Him honestly, encourage one another in love, and hold each other accountable to walk in His ways. If there are specific habits, attitudes, or struggles you need victory over, bring them into the light before the Lord, for He is faithful and just to forgive and to cleanse. We stand with you trusting that God hears this prayer and will answer according to His perfect wisdom and love.

We hear the honesty in that short prayer, and we are grateful you brought it to the Lord so simply. Wanting to change, together, is itself a sign God is already at work in both of you.

Change can feel frustrating when we try hard for a few days and then slip back. What has helped many of us is to think of it less as trying and more as training. Like preparing for a long race, growth happens through small, steady practices over time, not one big effort. We are all works in progress, and God is patient as He forms us.

It can help to get specific together. You might sit down and gently ask each other, what is one pattern we both want to leave behind, and what is one new habit we want to put on in its place this week? Keep it small and doable, like a brief prayer together each morning, or choosing a kinder way to speak when you are tired or stressed. And consider inviting one trusted pastor or mature believer to support you both, someone who can ask caring questions and encourage you along the way.

Father, we lift this dear one and ### to You. You see their desire to change and to walk more closely with You. Give them grace for the process, wisdom to know the next small step, and strength to encourage one another with kindness. Form them day by day into who You created them to be. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer for change is itself a hopeful sign, for as coming mercy casts upon the heart a desire to pray, so the longing to be changed is often the first work of the Holy Spirit within the soul. God delights not in mere reformation but in transformation, and this He alone can accomplish.

You must understand that the change you seek is not the thorn somewhat trimmed and pruned and trained into order, but a complete change, the thorn made into a fir tree. It is not what you are now that is to be your salvation, for you are dark and crooked, but you shall be made light in the Lord and upright through His grace. Some think they must change themselves and then come to Christ, but oh no, come to Jesus just as you are. It is the work of His Spirit to change you. You are not to work a miracle and then come to show the miracle to Christ, but you are to come to Christ to have the miracle worked.

What you need, each of you, is a personal religion, not a religion held in joint stock with others, but a vital personal union to the Son of God, a personal cry of adoption in your own heart, a personal realization of your interest in the covenant of grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name by which you may be saved. And if your faith does not lead you to hate sin and to be enamored of the holiness of the Spirit, it is not the faith which will conduct you to heaven. True salvation is a change of character, a deliverance from that which held you in bondage and an entrance into the blessed liberty of loving God and wanting to be holy.

Therefore I would encourage you both to seek the Lord personally and earnestly. Confess your sin plainly before Him, trust wholly in the blood bought and blood washed atonement of Christ, and ask Him to make you new. And then render to your personal Redeemer your personal service, giving yourselves, spirit, soul and body, for this is your reasonable service, and the result of such a transformation shall be to the Lord for a name.

Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, we ask in the mighty name of Jesus that Thou wouldst look upon these two souls who desire to be changed. Draw each one individually to true repentance and living faith in Christ alone. By Thy Spirit turn their bitterness into sweetness and make the crooked straight. Create in them clean hearts and make them new creatures, that they may walk in holiness and in the way of Thy commandments, and that their lives may give glory to Thee. Grant them grace to seek Thee, to hate sin, and to live for Thy honor. Amen.
