Heavenly Father

We join with you in lifting up ### before our Heavenly Father and we thank you for bringing him before the throne of grace in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father.

We know your heart is heavy with concern for him and we share that burden with you. Life is precious to God, for we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and He formed us with purpose. Scripture reminds us that Yahweh is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit Psalm 34:18, and that He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3. When thoughts of harming oneself arise, it is often from deep pain, despair, or feeling overwhelmed, but God wants him to know that he is not alone and that his life has great value and purpose. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11.

We pray that God will surround ### with His protection, His peace that surpasses all understanding, and His comforting presence right now. We ask that any spirit of despair, hopelessness, or darkness be lifted from him and replaced with hope in Christ.

We encourage you to continue to look out for him with steadfast love, to stay connected to him, to remind him that he is deeply loved by God and by those around him, and to help him reach out for support. We urge you, if he is in immediate danger, to ensure he is not alone and to help him connect with a trusted pastor, a biblical counselor, a mature believer, or a medical professional, and with emergency help if needed. Encourage him to cast all his worries on him, because he cares for you 1 Peter 5:7, and to remember that nothing can separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord Romans 8:38-39.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, we lift up ### to You right now and ask for Your merciful hand to be upon him. Lord, protect him from harm and from any desire to harm himself. Surround him with Your angels, with Your peace, and with people who will speak Your truth and love into his life. Comfort his heart, quiet his anxious thoughts, and remind him that he is Your creation, loved, valued, and not forgotten. Heal what is broken within him, give him strength for each day, and draw him close to Jesus where there is hope, forgiveness, and new life. Lead him to the help and support he needs and give wisdom and strength to those who care for him. We ask this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our hope and our refuge, amen.

Here is the redacted text:

If you are worried that ### may harm himself, please reach out for help right away. If he is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services right now. For free, confidential support, find a helpline in your country at findahelpline.com. You are not alone; trained people are ready to help right now.

Thank you for bringing ### to the Lord with such care. We hear how heavy this is to carry and how much you want him to be safe. It is a loving and faithful thing to keep praying for him and to stay attentive to his wellbeing. We are joining you in prayer for him now.

When you are able, it can help to stay in close contact and let someone near him know about your concern, like family, a close friend or a pastor, so he is not alone with these thoughts. A simple, caring check in and listening without needing to fix everything can mean a lot. Alongside prayer, we gently encourage helping him connect with a counselor, doctor or other trusted professional who can support him in person, and encourage him to reach out for help if thoughts of harm get stronger.

Father, we lift ### to You and ask You to watch over him and keep him safe. Surround him with people who will stay close, listen well and help him get support. Give him hope and strength for each day, and give our friend wisdom, peace and support as they love him well. In Jesus name, amen.

Your prayer for this dear one has been heard and we join our hearts with yours before the throne of grace, asking the Lord to keep him and to hold him fast in this dark hour.

There are times when a soul finds there is no hope in himself, and then draws the unwarrantable conclusion that there is no hope for him in God. That is not true. Hopelessness in self is one thing, but hopelessness in God is a sin from which we would urge every soul to flee. As it has been preached among us, God is the God of Hope, and those who are without hope are also without God. No man has a just pretense to perish in despair. While there is life there is hope, for our hope lives as long as our God lives, and He ever lives to save.

We would say to him, as the prophet says, Turn you to the stronghold, ye prisoners of hope. Even when Giant Despair has cast the pilgrim into the dungeon, the door of hope is not shut. The pit wherein is no water need not hold him, for Christ is the stronghold, and His blood and His mercy are open still. While mercy's gate stands wide open, and the silver bell still rings, Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest, despair is unwarranted. We are saved by hope, and that hope is not a bare wish but belief and desire and expectancy fixed upon Christ who is not seen as yet, but who is surely ours if we trust Him.

So we pray earnestly for him now. May the Lord in His great compassion set His hand upon him and preserve his life. May He lift the cloud of heaviness, give light in darkness, and show him that there is hope in God though there be none in himself. May He draw him to look wholly to Jesus Christ alone for salvation and rest, for there is no other name by which we are saved, and no other refuge for the despairing soul. May the Holy Spirit breathe hope into him again, so that he may say, while I live I hope, and while I hope I live.

We urge you, dear praying one, to keep close watch over him in love. Let him not be alone in this trial. Seek to place him among faithful Christian friends and pastors who can walk with him, and encourage him to seek help from those skilled to care for such heaviness of mind, whether pastor or counselor or physician. If you fear he is in immediate danger of harming himself, do not delay but stay with him and help him to reach trusted help at once, whether a family member, a minister, or emergency help in your area, in the United States you may call or text ###, in the United Kingdom you may call Samaritans on ###, and elsewhere please contact your local crisis service or go with him to the nearest place of help.

We will pray together.

Heavenly Father, look in mercy upon this dear one for whom our friend prays. Thou art the God of Hope. Keep him from the hand of the destroyer and from his own hand. Forbid that he should harm himself, but turn him to the stronghold which is Christ. Speak peace to his troubled heart, forgive his sins through the precious blood of Thy Son, and give him hope that he may live. Sustain also the one who prays, and make them a steady instrument of Thy love and truth to him. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our only hope. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer for him is heard and it is good that you have brought him before the Lord with such love and urgency. We join you now in asking our Heavenly Father to keep His hand upon him, to guard his life, and to surround him with mercy in this hour of heaviness.

Scripture teaches us that God desires not the death of any but that all should turn and live, and that in Christ alone there is salvation and true hope. When the heart is pressed down by sorrow or temptation to harm oneself, the enemy would have us believe that there is no way forward. One of the homilies reminds us that the wicked one never despairs of our destruction, while we too quickly despair of our own salvation. Yet to sin wounds us, but to despair wounds us more, because the one who has fallen can still rise quickly through repentance, while the one who gives way to despair refuses the very remedy that would heal him.

So we pray not only for his safety, but for his hope. We ask the Lord to lift the cloud of despair from him, to show him that his life is precious in the sight of God, made in His image and bought with the blood of Christ, and to give him the bread that endures to everlasting life rather than only relief from present pain. Christ came to seek and to save, to bind up the brokenhearted, and He is near to those who are crushed in spirit.

Continue to watch over him in love. Do not leave him alone in his struggle if you can help it. Speak to him gently and steadily, remind him that he is not forgotten by God or by those who love him, and help him to stay connected to faithful people who can walk with him day by day. Encourage him to share his burden openly with a trusted pastor, a mature believer, family, or a counselor, and if he is in immediate danger, help him to reach help at once through those near him or through emergency help and a crisis helpline in your area.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we lift up this dear one to You. You know his name, his thoughts, and his pain. Have mercy upon him and keep him from harm. Drive away the spirit of despair and let Your light shine into his darkness. Give him strength to cry out to You, to receive Your forgiveness and Your comfort, and to find hope in the promise of eternal life through Jesus. Place around him people who will care for him, listen to him, and point him to You. Grant him peace that passes understanding and a renewed desire to live for Your glory. Amen.

Keep praying and keep showing him the love of Christ. If his distress deepens, stay with him and help him to get care without delay. The Lord is faithful and He will not abandon those who call upon Him.
