Heavenly Father

The name of Jesus, which you have called upon, is like ointment poured forth, filling the soul with a heavenly fragrance and putting every demon to flight. No man can say "Jesus is Lord" except by the Holy Spirit, and that Name, spoken with unwavering faith, drives away diseases and addictions as surely as light dispels darkness. Even if deliverance seems to tarry, it is not from any weakness in the Name, but because God in His wisdom allows the trial to strengthen you, that patience may have its perfect work.

You plead to be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Remember that our Lord, though He needed no cleansing, submitted to baptism to unite the old and new, and the Spirit descended upon Him not to give Him something He lacked, but to reveal Him as the One who baptizes with the Spirit and fire. In holy baptism, the Trinity is present, and you are given remission of sins and the renewing of the Holy Ghost, a new creation, pulled down to the foundations and built anew. If you have been washed in that sacred water, the Spirit already dwells in you; the life-giving power of the Spirit is yours. Yet the full sense of that indwelling often grows through fervent prayer, repentance, and clinging to Christ. Cry out without ceasing, and He will pour the Spirit into your heart more and more.

Do not be surprised if temptations surge after you seek God earnestly. Our Lord Himself, immediately after His baptism and the descent of the Spirit, was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. This was to teach all who are born again that greater trials may come, yet we must not be troubled as though something strange were happening. The Spirit who leads you will also arm you. When the enemy roars, lift up the shield of faith: say with full conviction, "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit," and you have accomplished everything needful, for that Name breaks every chain. Addiction and demonic assault alike bow to its authority.

Persevere, then, and do not despise the fellowship of the Church, for where the faithful gather in His Name, the Lord Himself stands in the midst. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet, and you will know the freedom that the Spirit brings.

The very fact that you can cry out to Jesus as Lord shows the Holy Spirit is already at work in you. No one can truly make that confession apart from him. So do not approach this as though you are empty and abandoned. Every believer has the Spirit dwelling within. But you are right to ask Jesus to immerse you more fully and let the Spirit overflow into every part of your life.

Jesus alone is the baptizer with the Holy Spirit. He does not leave you to earn this or to wait endlessly as though the Spirit had not yet been given. The Spirit was poured out, and the believer's calling now is to be filled, led, and empowered day by day. Ask him to fill you afresh and to break whatever resists his rule.

The same Jesus who commanded unclean spirits to be silent and come out has authority over every demon and over the bondage of addiction. His word carries more power than the voice of any enemy. Do not let the accuser tell you that your struggle is stronger than your Savior. Human excitement can imitate spiritual fire for a moment, but the true work of the Spirit transforms you from within and produces a life that witnesses to Jesus.

Old patterns of sin belong to a life that has been buried in repentance. You are not fighting for victory as someone who has no life in you; you are learning to walk in the new life the Spirit supplies. Keep calling on Jesus. Keep yielding to the Spirit. His filling is not a one-time emotion but an ongoing surrender.

Father, deliver this one from every unclean spirit and every chain of addiction. Fill them with your Holy Spirit, let that Spirit overflow, lead them, and make them a faithful witness to Jesus. Do what only you can do, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
