Heat Exhaustion

Humble Prayer Warrior
My ### has difficulty regulating his body temperature due to a brain injury and we've been having unusually hot weather. He's been having a very difficult time coping and trying to get through each day. Relief is coming, but not fast enough. Please pray for him and help him get through this. Thank you and God bless you.

We join with you in lifting up your loved one before the Father and we are grateful you have brought this burden to us so we can seek God together. To see someone you love struggle each day because his body cannot regulate temperature well after a brain injury is heartbreaking, and the added suffering of unusually hot weather makes each day feel even longer. We understand your longing for relief to come quickly and we stand with you asking for God's mercy and sustaining grace until cooler days arrive.

We are reminded of how tenderly God watches over those who suffer. Psalm 121:5-6 says Yahweh is your keeper. Yahweh is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. And Isaiah 41:10 says Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Even when his body feels weak and overheated, the Lord is his shade and his strength. Psalm 147:3 also comforts us that He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, and Matthew 11:28 invites us Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. We pray that rest and relief would be very real for him in these hot days.

We lift him up together in prayer.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one who is struggling with heat exhaustion and difficulty regulating his body temperature because of his brain injury. Lord, You know his body intimately, You formed him and You understand every effect of that injury. We ask You to be his shade and his keeper, to protect him from harm from the heat, to keep him hydrated and cool, and to give him endurance to get through each difficult day. Grant wisdom to those who care for him to help him stay safe, to provide cool shelter, water, and needed medical care. Ease his discomfort, calm his body, and grant him peaceful rest especially at night. We ask for Your healing touch upon his brain and body according to Your will, and for relief from this oppressive heat very soon. Sustain his family as well and give them peace as they watch over him. We pray all these things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

We encourage you to continue to take practical steps to keep him as cool and safe as possible, to ensure he has plenty of fluids, a cool environment, and to seek medical help promptly if signs of heat exhaustion worsen, for God often provides protection through wise care. Keep trusting Him day by day until relief comes.

We also want to gently share something dear to our hearts. We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is because Jesus died for our sins and rose again that we can boldly bring every need to God and be heard. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, to confess your need for Him and receive His forgiveness and eternal life. He is our greatest hope not only for relief in this heat but for every day and for eternity.

We will continue to keep you both in prayer and we trust God will carry him through this season with His presence and peace.

We hear how heavy these hot days have been for you both. Watching someone you love struggle just to get through each day because his body cannot regulate temperature well after a brain injury is draining, and waiting for cooler weather when it feels so far off makes it harder.

It makes sense that you are worn down and worried right now. Caring day after day through a chronic effect of an injury takes a lot out of the person who is ill and out of the family who loves him. We are grateful you reached out and let us carry this with you in prayer.

Since heat-related illness can become serious quickly, we gently encourage you to stay in close touch with his doctor or care team and to reach out to them promptly with any concern, alongside prayer. If you have others nearby, family, friends, or your church, please let them help share the watch and the practical load in these last hot days while you wait for relief.

Father, we lift this dear man to You and the one who loves him and is caring for him. Please give him comfort in his body, strength for each day, and protection in this heat. Give wisdom to those caring for him and to his medical team, and give peace and rest to his loved one as she waits and watches. Sustain them both until cooler days come, and draw them close to Your care. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your request and we join you in bringing this dear sufferer before the throne of grace. To see a loved one unable to regulate the heat of his own body, and to watch him labor through each hot and heavy day, is a trial that touches the heart deeply. You speak of it as his affliction, and rightly so, for it is his own, felt in his own frame, and watched with love by those who care for him. We pray that the Lord who sees and knows all our infirmities will look upon his affliction and grant present mercy.

The believer has a peculiar comfort in affliction, and that comfort comes from a peculiar source. As David said, This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your Word has quickened me. It is not the letter only, but the Spirit breathing through the Word that quickens and sustains. When the body is weary and the heat presses sorely, the soul may still be kept alive by the promise of God. His Word tells us that He will not suffer us to be tried beyond what we are able to bear, and that underneath are the everlasting arms. May that Word be sweet to him and to you, and may the Spirit of God teach you both to say, This same Word is my comfort in my affliction.

We know that to call affliction light may seem strange to one who feels its weight so keenly. The apostle spoke of our light affliction while he himself was heavily afflicted and acutely felt it. He did not mean that affliction is a trifle to bear, but that when weighed against the eternal weight of glory it is light and but for a moment. The bark of the tree of affliction is bitter, but sanctified affliction has a pith that is sweet, for it works in us patience and hope and a longing for that better country where the heat shall not smite by day. And we are told, It may be that the Lord will look upon my affliction. He does look upon it. Not a sigh, not a fevered hour, not a restless night escapes His eye. He who numbers the hairs of our head beholds this bodily trial and will repay with good according to His wisdom and love.

There is also healing virtue in Christ. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. His fruit is nourishing and His very leaves give freshness to the weary. We look to Him as the great conduit Head from whom streams of healing flow down to men below. Whether He lifts the affliction at once or sustains under it, His power to comfort and to heal is abundant.

Let us pray together.

O Father, even our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, comfort the heart of this Your afflicted child and establish him in every good word and work. Look upon his frame, so tender and so tried by this brain injury, and grant relief from this oppressive heat. Cool his body, ease his distress, give wisdom to those who tend him, and grant cooler days speedily. Quicken him by Your Word, keep him in patience through each difficult day, and let him feel Your presence as near and real. Comfort also the one who watches and prays, and give daily strength for daily need. We ask that You will bring both comfort and constancy, that in quiet trust this household may prove the power of Your grace. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and healer. Amen.

We will continue to remember him before the Lord until relief comes, and we pray that you will find your delight in the law of the Lord, lest you perish in affliction, but rather be upheld by it. The Lord bless you and keep you, and make His face to shine upon you both.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
