Heart transplant surgery

We lift up ### in earnest prayer as they face heart transplant surgery tonight at 10 pm. Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, yet trusting in Your sovereign power over life and health. Your Word reminds us in Psalm 139:13-14, "For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." Lord, You know every detail of ###'s heart, both physically and spiritually. We ask for Your healing hand to guide the surgeons, nurses, and all medical staff involved. Grant them wisdom, precision, and steadfast focus as they perform this delicate procedure.

Father, we pray for peace to flood ###'s heart and mind. In Philippians 4:6-7, You tell us, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." Let this peace, which transcends all understanding, surround ### and their loved ones as they wait. Calm their fears and fill them with hope in Your promises.

Lord, we also ask for Your protection over ###'s body during and after the surgery. Shield them from complications, infection, or rejection of the new heart. We declare Your healing power over them, as it is written in Jeremiah 30:17, "For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh." We trust in Your restorative power, believing that You are able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine.

We must also lift up ###'s spiritual heart before You. Surgery of the physical heart often reminds us of the condition of our spiritual hearts. Ezekiel 36:26 says, "I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh." If ### has not yet surrendered their life to Jesus Christ, we pray that this time of vulnerability would draw them to You. There is no other name by which we can be saved, only through faith in Jesus Christ can we have eternal life (Acts 4:12). If they do not know You as their Lord and Savior, we ask that You reveal Yourself to them in a powerful way during this trial. Let them experience Your love, grace, and the assurance of salvation that comes only through Christ.

For those who may be supporting ###, we pray that they would stand firm in faith, trusting in Your goodness even when the outcome is uncertain. Remind them that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). May this time draw them closer to You and to one another.

We rebuke fear, doubt, and any spirit of despair that may try to take hold during this time. We declare that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We stand on Your promises, Lord, and we trust in Your perfect plan for ###'s life.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

We’re thinking of you in these heavy hours of waiting, a heart transplant is one of those moments where everything else fades, and you’re left simply holding your loved one before the Lord.

We’ve been reminded of a pastor who once visited his church organist the day before major heart surgery. He came ready to gently explore fears and anxiety, but the man met him with a quiet, glad confidence: “I’m in God’s hands.” It wasn’t denial or forced positivity, it was a settled peace, rooted in trust, not in knowing the outcome. That memory encourages us now, not to pretend the surgery isn’t serious, but to rest in the same truth that holds your family tonight: God is present, and His love does not waver.

While the procedure goes forward, you might gather a few friends or family to pray with you, even by phone or text, so you’re not carrying the weight alone. Sometimes just speaking Jesus’ name together, aloud, steadies our hearts when our own words run out.

A prayer we’re praying with you now:

Lord Jesus, we lift up this beloved one to You as they undergo heart transplant surgery right now. Guide the surgeons’ hands, give wisdom and steadiness to every person in that operating room, and let their skill be an instrument of Your healing. Surround this family with Your presence, calm their spirits, quiet their fears, and hold them securely through every minute of waiting. We entrust this life entirely to You, knowing that whether in recovery or in any outcome, nothing can separate us from Your love. May Your peace that passes understanding guard every heart tonight. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The knife of the surgeon is to be laid to a heart this night at ten, a heart grown weary with the burden of its own failing beat. A man’s skill may patch the physical organ, yet what of the inward heart, the wellspring of every desire, the seat where sin or grace doth dwell? The great Physician walketh the wards unseen, and His healing needs no scapel; He giveth a new heart and a right spirit, and with it peace that passeth understanding. You have need to cry out for a heart to perceive, for eyes to see your own dimness, for ears to hear the voice of God; left to ourselves, we are as those who boast they need no light from above, yet abide in the dark.

The Holy Spirit must break up the iron pan of the heart, tear out the rocks that lie beneath, else there be no harvest unto God. And He doth this when the soul lies low before Jesus, whispering her complaint, her sin, her fear. There, forgiveness and healing meet together; the same Cross that bore the atonement crucifies the power of sin. With His stripes we are healed, not in part, but wholly, from the guilt that stings and the sorrow that shatters.

Then cometh perfect peace: Peace, perfect peace, with sorrows surging round? On Jesus’ bosom nought but calm is found. Let this hour be more than a waiting through the night; let it be a looking unto Him whose heart was pierced for your peace. Trust yourself, body, soul, and spirit, to His care, and whether the earthly heart beats on or is stilled, you shall know His healing leaves for all your sickness, and a life hid with Christ in God.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
