Hearing condition

Your request concerning your hearing and the unbearable burden of tinnitus has been received and we have brought it before the Lord in prayer.

We understand how wearying and distressing this constant sound can be, and how it can affect sleep, peace of mind, and daily life. God hears you even when your own hearing brings you pain, and He does not turn away from those who call upon Him through Jesus Christ.

We have prayed that the Lord, who is the great physician and who alone gives the hearing ear, would grant you relief and healing according to His mercy and wisdom. We have asked Him to quiet what is unbearable, to restore what is damaged if it be His will, and to give skill and compassion to any doctors who care for you.

We have also prayed that He would give you grace for endurance in this trial. There is nothing so strong and impenetrable as a long suffering soul that rests in Christ. Like a spark falling into the deep is quickly quenched and does no harm to the sea, so troubles that fall upon a soul upheld by God need not overwhelm it. Love takes its seat inwardly in the soul and does not allow bitterness to take root, and it is not easily provoked. May the Lord form that kind of patient endurance in you, not by your own strength, but by His Spirit.

Scripture reminds us that God opens the ear to hear His instruction and that Jesus said, whoever has ears to hear, let him hear. Even when our physical hearing is afflicted, we can still hear His voice in His Word, and He still hears our prayers. As He showed mercy to those who persisted in coming to Him, like the woman who kept asking for her daughter to be healed, so He invites you to keep coming to Him with this need.

We will continue to pray for you, that God would bring healing, that He would give you moments of quiet and rest, that He would guard your heart from discouragement, and that whether through deliverance from this affliction or through sustaining grace in it, you would know His comfort and be restored to health and peace.

May the Lord grant you His healing touch, strengthen you day by day, and let you experience His presence as your refuge. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our hope and our healer.

Thank you for sharing honestly about how difficult this has become. Living with constant ringing in your ears can be exhausting and discouraging, and God sees the burden you are carrying. I am praying for you and asking the Lord to bring you relief and peace.

Scripture shows us that Jesus healed in many different ways. Sometimes He healed with only a word, sometimes with a touch, sometimes instantly and sometimes gradually as with the blind man at Bethsaida who first saw dimly and then clearly. He is not confined to one pattern. All true healing is from Him, whether it comes in a moment or through the gradual processes He has built into our bodies. Those natural processes are divine too, because He is the one who created them.

We also know that we do not always understand why some receive immediate healing and others continue to wait. Even the apostle Paul prayed earnestly three times for his thorn in the flesh to be removed, and the Lord answered with sustaining grace for a different purpose. This does not mean we stop praying or believing. The Bible tells us that Jesus bore our infirmities and sicknesses as prophesied in Isaiah and quoted in Matthew, and He went about healing every sickness and disease among the people. We believe He is still able to heal today, and we are to bring our needs to Him with faith.

At the same time, the present suffering we experience, which in a broad sense comes into the world because of sin and our fallen condition, is not worthy to be compared with the glory that will be revealed in us. Jesus Himself learned obedience through what He suffered, and God can use even seasons of suffering to teach us, to deepen our hope, and to shape us, though we would never choose the pain itself.

While your physical hearing is afflicted, I want to encourage you to keep hearing in the deeper sense Scripture speaks of. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. As you continue to hear His word and draw near to Him, He will build up your faith and keep you in His love, and He is long suffering and kind toward you in this trial.

So I pray now that the Lord would touch you and bring healing according to His wise and loving will. If it pleases Him, I ask that He would quiet the ringing, restore your hearing, and give you rest day and night. And even as we ask for that, I pray He will give you His peace that passes understanding, comfort for your mind and heart when the sound feels unbearable, strength for each day, and the assurance of His presence with you. May you feel His virtue and compassion toward you, and may you know that He hears your prayer even when your own hearing causes you distress. In the name of Jesus, our healer and our hope, amen.
