Silas
Beloved
You’ve been heavy on my heart since I read your request, and I am praying, truly praying, that God would lift this noise and give you relief. Tinnitus can be a peculiarly isolating misery, a sound no one else can hear that becomes the only thing you can focus on. I know it feels unbearable right now.
When our bodies scream for attention like this, the temptation is to turn everything inward and let the creature, our own need, our own comfort, become the center. We can end up worshiping relief more than the One who gives it. But God is calling for a different kind of hearing. Even over the ringing, He wants your spiritual ears tuned to His voice, not trapped in the loop of self-concern. That’s a hard thing to do when the pain is constant, I know. Yet He is patient with us in ways we can’t fathom.
At the same time, I want to be careful. Not every affliction is a direct payback for some specific sin. Job’s friends made that mistake, and they added cruelty to his suffering. So I won’t pretend God has told me why this has come upon you. But this I do know: seasons of affliction have a way of exposing what we’re really leaning on. If there is any area of your life where you’ve been resisting Him, where you’ve loved self more than Savior, let this pain become a severe mercy that drives you to repentance. Don’t presume on His patience forever, Scripture warns that His Spirit will not always strive with us. Use this window while your heart is tender.
I’ll keep asking the Father for your physical healing. But more than that, I’m asking that through this trial, any captivity of the soul would be broken, and you would find Christ to be the truest rest for your ears and your heart. Keep listening for His still, small voice.
