Do not let your heart be troubled by these trials, nor imagine that God’s care is far off. Consider the hen who gathers her chicks under her wings: though they scatter and stray, her warmth is always ready to shelter them. In the same way, the Lord stretches out His protection over your parents, even when sickness seems to overwhelm. Trust in this affection, and do not lean on your own understanding or fear as if He were absent.

The maladies you describe are grievous: a lung consumed by fungus, a body swollen and aching with many afflictions. But remember that the same blood which was shed for the remission of sins is also a sign of a far greater healing. Not that I promise earthly cure alone, for that is not always the portion of the faithful, but I point you to the reconciliation made through that blood. It is the medicine of the soul, which teaches us that these bodily torments are but for a moment, and that to depart and be with Christ is far better than any earthly comfort. Yet for the living, there is still mercy. Call upon the name of the Lord with your parents, for whoever does so shall be saved. Not only saved in soul, but often delivered from temporal distress according to His will.

Look also to the wisdom of sufficiency. A body overburdened with rich foods and anxious cares invites disease, but a life ordered with simplicity and trust in God brings health to both flesh and spirit. Perhaps in this trial there is a call to turn from excess, to commit all to God, and to seek first the peace that comes through the cross. Let your parents be nourished by honest bread and pure water, and let their souls drink deeply of prayer. For the table that is free from turmoil, where no clamor of the world intrudes, is like an angel’s table, bringing strength beyond medicine.

Do not think that these things happen by chance or that God is angry. He who pleaded for his own, even when they shed the blood of the prophets, does not reject those who cry out to Him in their need. Therefore, approach Him with tears, but also with confidence. Ask pardon for any sins that may have added to these afflictions, and then rest in His great affection. For if He did not abandon the disciple who denied Him, but lifted him with a look, so too He sees your parents’ pain and will raise them up as He knows best, whether to health here or to perfect wholeness in His presence.

Your heart’s concern for your parents is heavy, and it has already been lifted before the Lord. What a privilege to carry their names into the presence of the God who hears. When a child pleads for a parent’s health, it is never a small thing in heaven.

At its core, prayer is not about the length of time or the eloquence of words. It is about drawing near to the Father, aligning our desires with His perfect will, and trusting His character. Jesus gave us a pattern that moves from worship to intercession to petition, each part essential. Right now, the deepest expression of that pattern is intercession, standing in the gap for your father and mother, asking God to act on their behalf.

Bring your mother’s diabetes and the fungal infection in her lungs before the Lord, who in the Hebrew tongue is called Yahweh Rapha, the Lord our Healer. He knows every cell in her body. Bring your father’s eyesight, his blood pressure, the swelling in his feet, the headaches, and the urinary troubles. Do not think you must spend an hour to be heard; the prayer that rises from desperation, the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous person, carries great power. God hears the groaning of the heart even when no words come.

Remember that the Lord often works through medicine and the wisdom of physicians. It is no failure of faith to receive treatment while asking for healing. Whether He heals through a miraculous touch or through the skill of doctors, His mercy is the same. The apostle Paul himself wrestled with a persistent condition, and the answer he received was not instant removal but the assurance that grace would be sufficient and strength made perfect in weakness. So trust Him either way, and pray with openness to His methods.

When you pray, let the Spirit minister comfort to your own spirit. As you intercede, know that you are not bound by distance. The prayers offered in your room, or whispered silently in the car, reach past every physical boundary and touch the lives of those you love. The Lord Jesus ever lives to make intercession, and your prayer joins something far larger than yourself.

As you bring these petitions, end with praise. A prayer of faith has confidence that God has heard and that His answer, whatever its form, will be good. The psalmist David, in nearly every desperate cry, turned the corner into praise before he finished. Do the same. Let your request for your parents’ health settle into a quiet offering of gratitude, because the King’s ear is open and His power is at work.

Continue to agree together with others in the body. Where two or three gather in His name, He is present. Stand firm, and let prayer be your first resort, not your last. May the peace of God, which surpasses understanding, guard your heart and mind as you entrust your parents to the One who loves them more than you ever could.

We are so grateful you entrusted us with the privilege of lifting your family before the Lord in prayer. It has been on our hearts to stand in agreement with you for your mother’s healing from diabetes and the fungal infection in her lungs, and for your father’s eyesight, headaches, urinary tract concerns, swelling in his feet, and blood pressure to be fully restored to health. We know how deeply you love them and how heavy these burdens must feel.

If the Lord has already moved in these situations—whether through doctors, medicine, or a miracle—we would be overjoyed to hear a praise report so we can rejoice with you. If the answers have not yet come, or if new concerns have arisen, please share them again so we can continue to intercede on your behalf. You are not alone in this; we are here to walk with you in faith and persistence.

May the Lord comfort you both, strengthen your trust in His timing, and fill your home with His peace. We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
