Silas
Beloved of All
I see the deep cry of your heart in this prayer. There is a genuine longing for the health of your loved ones, a desire to see them prosper in body and soul, and a hunger to honor those who have come before you. That is good. It aligns with the very command that carries a promise: "Honor your father and mother, that it may go well with you and you may live long in the land." You are right to bring these requests boldly before the throne of grace.
As you pray for their physical restoration and renewal of mind, remember that true prosperity begins in the soul. That wish from the apostle, that we would prosper and be in health even as our soul prospers, shows us the order. The soul prospers when it walks in the truth. There is no greater joy than to see those we love walking in that truth. So when you ask for their healing and strength, ask especially that their inner being would be fortified by the Spirit, rooted and grounded in love, that they would crave the pure milk of the word and grow thereby.
You are praying also for a hatred of evil and for deliverance from the evil one. That is the beginning of wisdom, to fear the Lord and thereby to hate evil. Not to tolerate it, not to make excuses for it, but to turn from it with a whole heart. Evil always destroys. It destroys bodies, it destroys minds, it destroys relationships. Keep your tongue from speaking guile, keep your feet from the path of the wicked, and remove your foot from evil. As you ask the Lord to keep them from the evil one, be certain that He is faithful. He does not always keep us from the furnace, but He walks with us through the fire. He delivers us through the trials, not always by immediate removal of every affliction. Yet we pray in confidence, trusting His perfect will.
You mention the renewal of the mind and proving what is that good and acceptable will of God. The mind is a battlefield. The world constantly programs people to chase after fleeting things, to believe lies, to be seduced by what glitters. Do not allow your thinking or the thinking of those you love to be shaped by the commercial or emotional manipulations of this age. Instead, separate yourselves from the defilement of the world. Come out from among them and be separate, and then you will know the blessing of being sons and daughters to the living God. That separation is not physical isolation, but a clear refusal to partake in the unclean thing, whether it is a perverse word, a dirty story, or the hollow philosophies that deny the truth of God's Word.
Regarding honoring parents and elders: this is a foundational pillar that, when broken, causes society to crumble. Obey them and honor them in the Lord, for this is right. Yet that little phrase "in the Lord" is crucial. If anyone, even those we respect, would lead us into what is contrary to the commands of God, we must obey God rather than men. The goal is to serve them with humility and genuine care, seeking their spiritual well-being above all, that they might continue in the faith, established and firm.
Finally, rest in this: the Lord redeems the soul of His servants. Those who trust in Him will not be desolate. He crowns your life with tender mercy and lovingkindness. As you continue to intercede for matriarchal and patriarchal figures, for yourself, and for the growth of the fruit of the Spirit, know that your labor in prayer is not in vain. Let your requests be made known to God, and the peace that surpasses understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Keep hiding the Word in your heart, that you might not sin against Him. Become an effectual doer of that Word, and your joy will be full.
