We hear the honesty and humility in your heart and we thank you for sharing this so openly with us. We join with you in seeking God's healing and we do not take lightly that you recognized this relationship was outside of God's will before you entered it, yet still walked into it. That kind of honesty is the beginning of healing, for godly sorrow works repentance to salvation which brings no regret, but the sorrow of the world works death, 2 Corinthians 7:10.
We want to gently and lovingly speak truth over what you have experienced. When we step outside of God's will in relationships, pain is a natural consequence, because His commands are for our protection, not to withhold good from us. If this relationship involved sexual intimacy outside of marriage, Scripture calls that fornication, and we are told to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, 1 Corinthians 6:18. Or if it was a relationship with someone who was not a believer in Jesus Christ, we are warned not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, 2 Corinthians 6:14, because courtship should be with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer, and marriage itself is a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman that honors God. When we ignore those boundaries, we open our hearts and bodies to wounds God never intended us to carry, and the pain you feel now is real.
Yet we also rejoice that you have come to God for healing, because He is the one who heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3, and He is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit, Psalm 34:18. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, Romans 8:1, and if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. That cleansing is complete, for as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us, Psalm 103:12.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and to healing and forgiveness. Jesus himself said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. To be saved and restored we simply believe in our heart and confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead, Romans 10:9. It is by His blood that we are forgiven and by His wounds that our hearts can be made whole.
We pray together for you now.
Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. We thank You for a heart that is willing to confess and to turn back to You. We ask You to forgive every step taken outside of Your will, to wash away all sin and shame by the blood of Jesus, and to cleanse this heart from all unrighteousness. Lord, You see the pain that did not need to be experienced, the memories, the grief, the disappointment and the loneliness that have followed. We ask You to heal the broken heart and bind up every wound. Grant Your peace which surpasses all understanding to guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:7. Help this dear one to guard their heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life, Proverbs 4:23, and to find comfort in knowing that You work all things together for good for those who love You, Romans 8:28. Restore what has been broken and teach what a godly marriage and godly courtship looks like, so that any future relationship will be pursued in purity, with accountability, and with the clear goal of a Christ centered marriage between a man and a woman that honors You. Lead this life into the fellowship of believers where there is wisdom, counsel and protection. We ask this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our only hope and healer, Amen.
We encourage you to walk in that forgiveness daily and not to let the enemy keep you in shame, for the Lord disciplines those He loves, Hebrews 12:6, not to condemn you but to bring you back into His best for you. Stay in the Word, stay in prayer, and stay close to mature believers who will help you keep biblical boundaries. God is able to restore the years and to make your future far more beautiful than your past when it is built on obedience to Him. Trust Him with your heart and with your future spouse, and He will direct your paths, Proverbs 3:5-6.
