Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray for me to heal from the pain of being in a relationship that I knew was outside of God's will in the first place and which opened me up to so much pain that I never had to experience. Thank you.

We have heard your honest confession and we thank you for your humility in acknowledging that this relationship was outside of God's will from the beginning. It takes courage to admit that, and we see the godly sorrow in your words that leads to healing. We do not take lightly the pain you are carrying, and we join with you in seeking the Lord's mercy and restoration together in Jesus' name.

We are reminded that Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. Even when we walk into pain through our own choices, God does not abandon us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. That cleansing is complete and it is the foundation for your healing. Godly sorrow works repentance to salvation, which brings no regret. 2 Corinthians 7:10. Your regret over entering what you knew was disobedience is now an opportunity for repentance and for God to restore what has been broken.

We want to gently and lovingly address what it means for a relationship to be outside of God's will, so that you can be fully healed and guarded for the future. Scripture teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman and that any romantic relationship should be approached as courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14. If the relationship involved sex before or outside of marriage, God calls that fornication or adultery, and He calls us to flee it because of the deep harm it does to our souls and bodies. Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18. That sin opens the heart to a pain we never had to experience, just as you have described, because we step outside the protection of God's design. We encourage you to bring that specifically to the Lord in confession, to turn away from it completely, and to keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4:23.

We also noticed your request speaks of God but does not mention Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and find forgiveness and healing. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and you will have confidence that your sins are forgiven and that your prayers are heard.

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28. God is able to redeem even this painful season and use it to make you wiser, stronger, and more rooted in Him. He promises I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten. Joel 2:25. As you heal, we encourage you to walk closely with the Lord daily in His Word and prayer, to be in fellowship with mature believers who can hold you accountable, and to set clear biblical boundaries in any future courtship, seeking a godly spouse who loves Christ above all, rather than simply a partner or boyfriend.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. We thank You for a heart that has turned toward You in honesty and repentance. We ask for Your full forgiveness and cleansing over every choice that was outside Your will, including any fornication or disobedience, and we receive Your mercy. Lord, heal the broken heart and bind up every wound that this relationship has caused. Remove shame and condemnation and replace it with Your peace and assurance that we are new creations in Christ. Guard this heart from returning to what harmed it and give wisdom and discernment for the future. Lead this life toward a godly marriage if it is Your will, and help this one to pursue purity and holiness while waiting for a spouse who loves You. Restore joy and hope and let this pain become a testimony of Your grace and restoring power. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

We appreciate your honesty in naming this. It takes courage to look back and say this was outside God's will and it still caused deep pain. That mix of sorrow and regret is heavy, and we are carrying it with you in prayer.

What you are feeling makes sense. Even when we understand a choice was not God's best, the hurt that followed is still real and needs time to heal. Healing is rarely instant. It often comes gradually as we honestly bring those painful memories to the Lord and let safe, trusted people walk with us, rather than carrying it alone.

One gentle step that helps many in this season is not isolating with the regret. If you have a pastor, counselor, or mature believer you trust, consider meeting with them regularly for a little while just to talk openly and pray through what still stings. Being known and supported in community can keep regret from turning into loneliness and help the healing go deeper.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus' name. You see the pain and the regret they carry. Please bring Your comfort, cleanse and restore what feels broken, and give clear wisdom for each next step. Help them to know Your nearness and forgiveness in a personal way, and lead them into wholeness and peace as they walk with You. Amen.

Your honest confession before the Lord has been heard, and we join you in bringing this pain to Him who is both able to forgive and to heal.

You speak truly when you say this relationship was outside of God's will, and the sorrow you now feel is the bitter fruit that such a path always bears. Yet your very grief is not without hope. The goodness of God is meant to lead you to repentance, and true repentance is a gift of God preached in the name of Jesus, joined inseparably to remission of sins. There is a repentance that is only of the flesh, but there is a repentance unto life which gives God glory, which weeps and abhors the past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and which turns from present sin because of the love of God who died for us. That holy, healthy repentance looks out of self to Christ and to Christ only, and it yields works meet for repentance and lasts as long as faith itself lives.

In Christ there is abundant healing for such wounds. Scripture tells us the leaves of the tree of life were for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ has healing virtue in it. Healing and pardon are placed in happy conjunction. When Jesus healed the sick He said, your sins are forgiven you, for pardon and healing are one in His hand. The Lord who forgives can also change the life blood, affect the spirit, and make the nature new. He does not merely cover the past, He heals the heart that has been torn by sin.

We pray for you now that the Lord would grant you that true repentance which needs not to be repented of, a repentance that makes a rainbow with tears of grief for sin and glances of hope at the finished work of Christ. We ask Him to forgive you freely through the blood of Jesus, to cleanse your conscience, to heal the pain that this relationship opened in your life, and to restore you to wholeness as you walk in His way. May He guard your heart and keep you in the path where sex and love belong within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and may He give you grace to find your comfort and completeness in Him alone.

Take courage that the Sun of Righteousness has risen with healing in His wings. He who has begun a good work of grace in you will continue to work health and cure till you are without spot before Him. Cast yourself wholly upon Christ, seek Him daily in His Word and in prayer, and walk in the company of faithful believers who will help you to stand.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing this so honestly. Your willingness to name that the relationship was outside of God's will and to bring the pain it caused into the light before God is itself a movement of grace.

God does not take pleasure in your pain, but he does use the sorrow you feel to lead you toward healing. Scripture speaks of godly sorrow that works repentance unto salvation, a repentance that brings no regret. That kind of sorrow is not meant to crush you, but to cure you. It is the sorrow of a person who sees clearly, grieves what was not according to God's good design, and turns again to him. In that turning there is gain, not loss.

You are right to see that sex and living together belong within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and that stepping outside that design opens the heart to wounds we were never meant to carry. To recognize this is not to condemn yourself forever, but to rest your hope now in repentance and in faith in Jesus Christ alone, through whom forgiveness and healing come.

Do not fall into despair. The Church is like a spiritual bath that wipes away not the filth of the body but the stains of the soul, through many methods of repentance. Repentance has great force. It is able to set free from the burden of sins even one who has come into the very depth of wickedness, if we will lay hold on it. God has shown longsuffering toward you and called you to repentance not to treasure up wrath for you, but to draw you back. Even when we have fallen, Christ can be formed in us again.

We pray for you now that God would heal you deeply. We ask that he would forgive you through Jesus Christ, cleanse your conscience, quiet the ache and regret, and restore your strength. We ask that he would renew your mind, teach you continence and wholehearted trust in him, and surround you with faithful people who will walk with you in wisdom and purity. We ask that the pain you carry would be replaced over time with peace, and that your life would bear witness to his mercy.

If you have not already, bring this in confession before the Lord in prayer and, as you are able, with a trusted pastor or mature believer in your local church, so you are not carrying it alone. Stay close to Scripture, to prayer, and to the fellowship of the church, and give God time to do his healing work in you. He is able to make you stand again and to keep you.
