Thank you for sharing this request for healing and wellness. We are joining you in prayer for this need and we count it a privilege to bring it before the Lord.
One of the warmest prayers in the New Testament is the greeting where John writes to Gaius that he prays he may prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospers. That was not given as a guaranteed promise that every believer will always be healthy, it was a heartfelt wish and prayer from a friend, much like we would say we hope a letter finds someone well. Yet it shows something beautiful, that God cares about the whole person and that there is a real connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. What happens in our hearts and minds can affect our bodies, and God is concerned for all of it, physical, emotional and spiritual.
Scripture shows us that Jesus has power over sickness. Matthew tells how Jesus healed the leper, the centurion's servant, Peter's mother in law, and many others who were brought to Him in the evening, and he connects that to the prophecy in Isaiah that the Messiah would bear our infirmities and carry our sicknesses. The bread of communion reminds us that Christ gave His body for us. This teaches us that physical healing, like forgiveness, flows from what Jesus accomplished. At the same time the Bible is honest that healing does not come in the same way or timing in every case. Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh to be removed and the Lord chose not to remove it but to give grace through it. The New Testament also asks, do all have gifts of healing, and the expected answer is no. God distributes gifts as He wills and He remains sovereign over when and how He heals.
That means loving and trusting God is not a guarantee that we will never face physical problems. Some of the most faithful believers have walked through great health struggles, and we cannot measure spirituality by physical health or assume divine immunity from suffering. God does help us, He is present with us, and He is still able to heal today. We do not need frenzy or showmanship to see His work. Sometimes He touches instantly, and sometimes He heals gradually. There is one account where Jesus laid His hands on a blind man and his sight returned in stages, the only gradual healing recorded in that way. Much healing comes through the ordinary processes God has built into our bodies, and that is no less from Him, for He created those processes. Whether instant or gradual, all true healing is from the Lord.
God also shows His care for our health in practical ways. He cares about how we steward our bodies, including what we eat and drink and how we care for cleanliness and rest, because these things affect our well being. Prayer for healing and wise care of the body go together.
So we pray for you in this way, echoing that prayer for Gaius, that God would bring health and wellness according to His wise and loving will, and that He would prosper your soul as you walk with Him.
Father, we bring this loved one before You in the name of Jesus. You know every need of body, mind and spirit. You bore our sicknesses and carried our infirmities, and You have all power over what afflicts us. We ask that You would touch and restore, whether by Your immediate hand or through the healing processes You have ordained, and bring strength, peace and wholeness. If it is Your will to allow this trial to continue for a season, grant grace, comfort and sustaining power, and use it to deepen faith and draw the heart closer to You. Above all, prosper the soul, bring assurance of Your forgiveness and presence through Christ, and let Your peace guard the heart. We trust Your goodness and Your timing, and we thank You that You hear us when we pray. In Jesus name, Amen.
