Healing

Your prayer for health and for guidance has been heard, and I join my voice with yours before the Lord who is the true physician of both soul and body.

You have asked that He keep your organs and every part of your body healthy, that He keep away infection and all harm, that He take away pain and ache and cover you from the top of your head to the soles of your feet with the blood of Jesus, and that His Holy Spirit remain with you. This is a good and faithful prayer, for God cares for the body He created. As the gospel shows, when He touched the woman with fever, He not only quenched the fever but gave her back perfect health at once, and to the woman who touched Him in faith He said, your faith has saved you, giving her a blessing equal to her bodily healing. With men these things may seem impossible, but with God all things are possible, and He is able to cure even when we cannot cure ourselves.

I also encourage you to remember that the health of the soul is greater still. There was a woman who, when she perceived that Christ was a prophet, asked Him not about bodily health or possessions or wealth, but about true doctrine and how to worship God. In the same way, while you rightly ask for strength and protection for your body, continue to seek first the health of your understanding and your faith, that your vision may remain clear and not be made turbid by confusion. The same Lord who heals the body desires to give spiritual life, and those who receive Him in faith have life within them.

Scripture also teaches us moderation and thankfulness in these matters. Paul, with fatherly affection, advised Timothy to use a little wine for his stomach and his frequent infirmities, showing that God does care for our bodily weakness and that He often provides help through ordinary means. So pray for healing, and also use with thankfulness the care and wisdom God has provided, without pride when you are well and without despair when you suffer. When we enter the house of prayer and see those who are sick, aged, or weak, we learn not to be high minded about our own health, but to be thankful, and those who are sick receive consolation knowing that God sees them.

Therefore let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I ask for Your mercy upon this Your servant. Cover him with the grace of the blood of Jesus, guard his body from infection, from bacteria, and from every evil that would harm him. Take away pain and ache according to Your will, restore strength, and preserve him in health. Let Your Holy Spirit remain with him, comfort him, and lead him. Show him the path he should walk and give him wisdom to make choices that please You. You have his heart and soul, and he offers You praise and worship. Keep him in Your hands, grant him both bodily health and, more than that, a firm faith and a thankful heart, that in all things he may glorify You. Amen.
