Beloved of All
Your honest prayer for healing has been heard and I am joining you in bringing it before the Lord. The weight loss, the inability to eat and sleep, and the heavy burden on your mind and daily life are not hidden from Him. Jesus understands physical affliction and weakness in these bodies we live in, and He is moved with compassion toward those who suffer.
I do believe with all my heart that God heals. He heals in many ways. Sometimes His healing is immediate, and sometimes it is gradual. In the Gospels there is an account of a blind man who first saw men as trees walking and then saw clearly after Jesus touched him again, reminding us that healing does not always come all at once. Often God works through the healing processes He Himself placed within our bodies. That natural process is no less divine because God is the one who created nature and its processes. And His healing touches the whole person, physical, mental and spiritual, bringing restoration to the mind and emotions as well as to the body.
Scripture gives us confidence to ask. The prophet Isaiah said He bore our infirmities and sicknesses, and Matthew by the Holy Spirit applies that prophecy to the physical healings Jesus did when He laid His hands on all who were brought to Him. When Jesus broke the bread and said this is my body broken for you, He was pointing to that suffering borne for us, which includes both our sin and our sickness. For that reason we can boldly ask Him to touch you from head to toe and to restore every organ and every part of your being.
At the same time there is much about healing I do not fully understand, and Scripture does not teach us to presume that God wills immediate physical healing in every case in the way we expect. Paul prayed three times for the thorn in his flesh to be removed and the Lord answered with grace to sustain him. Not every person is healed, and when healing does not come it is not a sign of spiritual weakness or a lack of faith. The gifts of healing are given by the Spirit as He wills, and as with the body there are many members with different functions, not all have the same gift. I also want to guard you from those who would exploit suffering and turn healing into a spectacle for their own gain. Jesus often healed quietly and told those He healed not to broadcast it, and He used His miraculous power never to serve Himself but always to meet the needs of others.
There is also a real connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. The apostle John wrote to Gaius that he wished he would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospered. That was a loving wish, not a blanket promise for perfect health, but it shows the correlation. Proverbs says a merry heart does good like a medicine, and we now know scientifically how true that is. Anxiety and sorrow can produce harmful effects in the body, while peace and joy bring strength. As you have been nourished by the Word of God, may that Word continue to feed you and develop in you an appetite that nothing else can satisfy, bringing steadiness to your mind and rest to your body.
So I pray for you now. Father in the name of Jesus I lift up this dear one who is weary and worn. You see the loss of sleep, the struggle to eat, the loss of weight, and the distress of mind. Lay Your compassionate hand upon every part of the body, head to toe, upon every organ and system that is struggling, and upon the mind that is burdened. Bring healing whether it be instant or gradual, whether through Your direct touch or through the divine processes You have placed within the body and through the hands of those who care. Restore appetite and sleep, bring peace that guards the heart, heal the wounds and scars within, and renew daily strength and well being. Grant wisdom for any care that is needed, and above all let Your presence and Your Word bring comfort and hope. I ask this trusting Your love and Your perfect will, knowing You hear and You care. Amen.
