Healing

Beloved of All
Please pray for healing of my husbands ankle/foit. We have thought it is gout, but I has hurt for several days and he’s having trouble walking.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your husband’s pain and asking for His healing touch upon his ankle and foot. The Word of God assures us that "by His stripes we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5), and we stand on that promise today. The pain he is enduring, whether from gout or another ailment, is not beyond the reach of our Great Physician. Jesus walked this earth healing the sick, the lame, and the broken, and He remains the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). We declare His healing power over your husband’s body, asking that inflammation would subside, pain would cease, and strength would return to his foot so he may walk without discomfort.

Father, we also ask for wisdom for those providing medical care. Guide the hands of any doctors or specialists he may see, and give them insight into the root of this pain. If there are lifestyle changes or treatments that would bring relief, reveal them clearly. Above all, we pray that this trial would draw your husband, and your entire family, closer to You. May he find comfort in Your presence, knowing that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

We rebuke any spirit of infirmity or discouragement that may be trying to take hold. The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). We declare that this pain is temporary and that your husband’s body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). We speak restoration over his ankle and foot, commanding every cell and tissue to align with God’s perfect design for health.

Lord, we also lift up your marriage during this time. May this trial strengthen your bond as you lean on one another and on the Lord. Remind you both that you are heirs together of the grace of life (1 Peter 3:7) and that God is your ever-present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). Give you both patience, grace, and trust in God’s timing as you wait for His healing to manifest.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the One through whom all healing flows. Amen.

Thank you for letting us pray with you for your husband. It’s unsettling when someone you love is limping in pain and the usual remedies haven't helped. We’re sorry you’re both carrying this worry right now.

Since he’s been hurting for days and walking is hard, we’d gently encourage a doctor’s visit if you haven’t already, not out of alarm, but to get a clear picture. Whether it’s gout or something else, a good diagnosis can bring relief and a path forward. We’ll keep praying alongside whatever care he receives.

In the meantime, don’t hesitate to lean into God’s care together. He knows every ache and every anxious thought, and He’s not far off.

Jesus, we bring this husband to you. Please calm the pain in his ankle and foot, and restore his strength and mobility. Give the doctors insight and wisdom, and guide the treatment. Hold this wife steady in your peace, and let them both feel your presence as they walk through this. We ask for healing in your mercy and timing. Amen.

The trial of your husband’s foot brings both of you into the school of dependence upon our gracious God, and it is there that we learn lessons nowhere else obtained. The power of the Lord Christ is ever a power to heal, and whether the affliction be gout or some other malady, the Great Physician is still near to those who cry to Him. Yet mark this, our Lord’s healings in the days of His flesh often came in unexpected ways and with words that searched the soul before they restored the body. Think of the man sick of the palsy, let down through the roof, to whom Jesus first said, “Man, your sins are forgiven you,” before He bade him rise and walk. It may be that the Lord designs, through this present pain and lameness, to draw you both nearer to Himself, to give a deeper sense of His pardoning love, and to make the healing, when it comes, doubly sweet as a token of His covenant faithfulness. Therefore, while we plead for the removal of this trouble, let us also seek that any spiritual lethargy or hidden sin be brought to light and forgiven, for He still delights to say, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.”

You have thought it gout, but wisdom teaches us to use means as well as to pray. The beloved physician Luke reminds us that the Lord works through remedies as truly as by His bare word. Seek such help as providence affords, and while you do, cast all your care upon Him who cares for you. The Husband of His people knows our frame and remembers that we are dust. He who led Israel through the wilderness and healed their diseases has not lost His tender pity. In Peter’s house, where the fever raged, Jesus came and lifted the woman up; in your house He is present by His Spirit, and He is able to lift up your husband and restore his strength. Let your faith lay hold upon Him, not dictating the manner or the moment, but resting in His wise and loving will. When we cannot comprehend the delay, we may still trust the love that has given us the greater gift of His Son; and if He so loved us as to die for us, He will withhold no good thing in due season.

Be watchful, too, against the natural tendency to fret or to grow impatient under the rod. The Lord’s chastisements are not punishments for His own children, but fatherly corrections meant to produce the peaceable fruit of righteousness. He breaks no hearts needlessly, and when He wounds, His hands make whole again. The tree of life stands on either side of the river in the celestial city, its leaves unfailing for the healing of the nations; even now, by faith, we may pluck those leaves and find balm for body and soul. The power of the Lord is present to heal, and while we pray for the immediate easing of pain and restoration of strength, we would not forget that the fullest healing is already ours in the covenant of grace. The day is coming when the inhabitant shall not say, “I am sick,” and meanwhile every trial is measured by the hand of Him who tempers the wind to the shorn lamb.

Therefore, pray on, and let your husband’s soul be stayed upon the Lord. Let this pain speak to him of the brevity of life and the preciousness of Christ, so that if the healing tarries, his inner man may be renewed day by day. I am persuaded that the Lord will visit you in mercy; whether He says, “Be it unto you according to your faith,” and grants a swift recovery, or whether He sustains you both under the burden, He will be glorified and you will be refined. Rest in the faithfulness of your heavenly Husband, for He remains faithful when we are faithless, and His compassions fail not.
