Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer for your son is heard and we join you in bringing him before the Father with thanksgiving. It is beautiful that you ask not only for physical healing but for renewal of strength and restoration of peace in his mind and spirit, because God cares for the whole person.
Scripture teaches that there are two kinds of peace that belong together. First there is peace with God, which only comes through the blood of Jesus Christ who made peace for us on the cross. When we are no longer at war with God, when our sins are forgiven and we belong to Him, the inward war is quieted. Then there is the peace of God, that steady, perfect peace that guards the heart and mind even when the world around us is in turmoil. Jesus said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, and the apostle speaks of a peace that passes all human understanding to keep our hearts and minds in Christ.
That perfect peace is promised to the one whose mind is stayed on the Lord because he trusts in Him. As you and your son turn your thoughts toward the Lord and trust Him day by day, His peace begins to fill the heart. It is not dependent on circumstances, but on confidence that God is in control and that His thoughts toward you are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give hope for the future. He has offered this peace to those who are near and to those who are far off, saying peace, peace, I will heal him.
The Lord also promises to be our strength. In ourselves we have no strength to sustain us, especially in seasons of illness and worry, but the Lord is the strength of His people and in the Lord is everlasting strength. He has promised that He will give strength to His people and bless His people with peace. When you feel your own strength failing, you can look to Him to be your strength, your shield, and your help, and to renew your son's strength as well.
We do believe that God heals, and that every true healing is from Him. Sometimes His healing comes instantly, sometimes it comes gradually as a process He has built into our bodies and minds, but in every case He is the healer. He is able to heal physically, to heal the wounds and scars of the mind and emotions, and to bring spiritual wholeness through Christ. We do not always understand His timing or His ways, but we can trust His love and His power to do what is best.
So we pray with you now. Father, we thank You for Your blessings and for Your mercy. We ask in the name of Jesus that You would touch this son physically, mentally and spiritually. Lay Your healing hand upon his body, bring healing to his mind, and restore him spiritually as he walks with You. Renew his strength and let him know that You are his strength. Fill his heart with Your perfect peace as his mind is stayed on You, and guard his heart and mind with that peace that passes understanding. Let him know he is at peace with You through Jesus, and let that peace rule within. We also ask that You would give peace and strength to his parent who loves him and intercedes for him. May Your Word be his portion and may he experience Your keeping power. We ask this in the name of Jesus, amen.
