Healing, strength, peace

Your prayer for your son has been received and we join you in thanking the Father for His blessings and in asking for His mercy upon your son.

We pray with you that God, who is the true physician of soul and body, would heal him physically, mentally and spiritually. Even when healing seems slow, we do not cease to apply the medicine of prayer and the word, trusting that God is able to restore to health, to renew strength and to enable us to lay hold on eternal life in Christ. As we have often taught, love of hearing and eager prayer do not fail of their effect, for God hears those who call upon Him through His Son.

We also join you in asking for the peace which Christ Himself gives. This peace is not as the world gives. It is the mother of all good things and the foundation of joy, the peace which Christ left to His disciples when He said, Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you. We ask that this peace, which guards heart and mind, would rest upon your son and upon your home, and that where there has been weariness or trouble, God would bring rest and wholeness.

Let us pray together. Father, we thank You for Your goodness and for every blessing You have given. In the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we ask You to lay Your healing hand upon this son. Heal his body, renew his mind, and strengthen his spirit. Restore his strength and let Your peace, which passes all understanding, guard his heart. Draw him ever closer to Christ, in whom alone is salvation and life. Grant to his family also comfort, faith and patience as they wait upon You. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and our peace. Amen.

Thank you for bringing your son before the Lord with such love and faith. Your prayer for his healing, for renewed strength and for restored peace is precious, and I join you in lifting him to our Father in the name of Jesus Christ.

Scripture shows that God cares for the whole person. There is a close connection between the health of the body and the prosperity of the soul. As it is written, a joyful heart does good like a medicine, and that truth is seen in our bodies as well as our spirits. The apostle John prayed in that same way, that we would prosper and be in good health even as our souls prosper. So it is right to ask God to touch your son physically, mentally and spiritually, because the Lord is concerned for every part of his life.

We can bring that need to Jesus with confidence for both spiritual and physical healing. The prophet Isaiah said that the chastisement for our peace was upon Him and with His stripes we are healed. Matthew, writing by the Holy Spirit, applies that very prophecy to the physical healings of Jesus when He healed those brought to Him in the evening, showing that His suffering provides for our bodies as well as our souls. Peter also declares this same promise. When Jesus broke the bread He said this is My body which is broken for you, and we can trust His broken body for our physical needs as we trust His shed blood for forgiveness.

Healing comes in different ways. Sometimes it is immediate and sometimes it is gradual, as we see in the ministry of Jesus. Every process of healing is from God, for He created our bodies and the means by which they are restored, and He also heals the wounds of the mind and heart. Whether the touch is sudden or step by step, it is His divine work.

Strength also comes from Him alone. In our own weakness we learn to say you are my strength. When our strength fails, His does not. The prophet Daniel, when given a vision of spiritual things, found no strength left in himself and no breath in him, and needed God to strengthen him. In the same way, the Lord can renew your son when he is weak and uphold him day by day.

And with strength the Lord gives peace. First we have peace with God through the blood of Jesus who made peace on the cross, and then we know the peace of God within. Jesus said peace I leave with you, and we are promised that perfect peace will keep the one whose mind is stayed on Him, a peace that passes all understanding because it rests on the confidence that God is in control. That peace can guard the heart and mind even in turmoil.

So I pray with you that the Father would lay His healing hand upon your son in body, mind and spirit, that He would renew his strength as he waits upon the Lord, and that He would keep him in perfect peace as his thoughts are stayed upon Christ. May grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ be upon him and upon you as you trust Him.
