Healing, strength, peace

You ask the Father for healing, strength, and peace for your son. This is a good and holy request, for peace is the mother of all good things, the foundation of joy. Christ Himself left it to His disciples: “My peace I give unto you.” And even now, whenever the Church gathers, the one who presides pronounces it again and again, Peace be unto all, for this is the very breath of the Body. But hear this carefully: not every peace is the peace of God. The peace that comes merely from ease of body, from the absence of trouble, often proves deceitful. As Paul wrote, “When they shall speak of peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them.” So, while you pray for your son’s physical and mental relief, seek first the peace that surpasses all understanding, the peace that reconciles the soul to God.

Consider how the physician cuts out the incurable part to save the whole body. So too, what seems like a sword sometimes comes from the hand of the Great Physician, to separate us from those deadly sins that war against the soul. If your son is under affliction, it may be that God is quietly severing a hidden disease, that he might be made whole in spirit. Do not be terrified if the path to true peace involves a holy discord, a turning away from the world’s ways, a recovery of purity. The Son of God did not come to send a superficial peace but a sword that divides light from darkness. And yet His purpose is always to unite us to heaven, joining earth to the choirs of angels who sing, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will to men.”

Therefore, continue to pray with confidence. The grace of God that once spoke through an ass for Israel’s sake will not be silent when a mother pleads for her child. But as you ask for healing, do not forget to seek holiness, without which no one shall see the Lord. The peace of God is fixed and steadfast; it does not crumble like human truces. Let it rule in your son’s heart, so that whatever turmoil rages outside, he may possess that inward calm which comes from being at peace with the One who gave Himself for us. And if your son himself can be taught to forgive, to forswear bitterness, and to welcome the peace which Christ bestows in every liturgy, then he will find strength renewed and a health that does not perish.

Receive in your own spirit what the Church so often says: Peace be unto you. Let that greeting not remain a form of words, but a truth in your mind. For it is Christ who deigns to speak through His ministers. Hold fast to that peace, and entrust your son to the same gracious will, knowing that the Father who spared not His own Son will with Him freely give us all things.

Your prayer for your son moves me. You are seeking the mercy of God to cover him completely, physically, mentally, and spiritually. That desire aligns with the way Scripture speaks of our whole person. The apostle John once expressed a wish that a beloved friend would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospered. There is a deep, God-designed connection between the state of the inner man and the health of the body, a merry heart really does work like medicine, while a troubled spirit can wear the body down. So it is right to bring all three needs before the Father.

When Jesus broke bread and said, “This is my body broken for you,” He was offering more than forgiveness. By his stripes we are healed, not only from the wound of sin, but from every sickness and sorrow he bore on our behalf. I hold firmly to that promise for your son. The healing may come in an instant, or it may unfold gradually over time, as the divinely established processes within his body respond to the touch of the Creator. Any true restoration, whether rapid or slow, is a work of God’s hand, and we can trust his timing.

Peace is a gift the world cannot give. It is the settled confidence that the Son of God holds authority over every storm, over the physical realm, the material realm, and every dark spiritual power. Jesus still stands still when we cry, “Have mercy, O Lord, Son of David.” He is the Prince of Peace who can quiet the inner turmoil and bring a calm that passes understanding. I pray that kind of supernatural peace would guard your son’s heart and mind right now, and that you too would know that peace as you entrust him to the One who loves him more than you can imagine.

Strength, as the psalmist discovered, is found not in our own resources but in the Lord himself. When David’s strength failed with age, he cried, “Cast me not off, forsake me not.” And God answered by giving him a son, the greater Son of David, who would rule in righteousness and bring lasting peace. Today, that Son, Jesus, sits at the Father’s right hand, and his strength is made perfect in our weakness. I ask the Father to renew your son’s energy and to sustain him even through days when he feels exhausted in body or soul. May he lean on the everlasting arms and find that the joy of the Lord is his real strength.

Do not let go of the truth that eternal life is in the Son. Whoever has the Son has life, age-abiding, joy-filled, righteous, peaceful life. Hold fast to that confession for your household. As you continue to walk in truth and love, I believe the Father will honor your faith. I join my heart with yours: Father God, in the name of Jesus Christ, heal this beloved son. Let your mercy flow into every part of his being, drive out anything that does not belong, and grant him renewed vitality, a sound mind, and a spirit at rest. May he know without doubt that he belongs to the Son, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Amen.
