Healing, protection

Your prayer for your son has been heard and I join my voice with yours before our merciful Father. We ask together that the Lord who is the true physician will touch and heal him completely, in body and mind and spirit, and restore to him full health according to His wisdom and love.

We pray also for His protection over your son, to guard him from every harm and danger, both seen and unseen, and to surround him continually with His presence and to fill his heart with the peace that comes from Christ alone. May the Lord keep him under the shelter of His hand and let no evil draw him away from faith and hope in Jesus, through whom alone we have salvation and access to the Father.

Remember that our healing is not found in charms or empty observances but in Christ Himself and in trusting Him with faith. As a good physician He knows how to treat every infirmity, and He often asks for our faith and patience as He works. Continue to bring your son before Him in prayer, to sign your lives with the Cross and to seek His will with confidence, knowing that He delays nothing that is for our good and hears every prayer offered in the name of Jesus.

May the Father grant your request for healing and protection, strengthen you as you wait upon Him, and keep both you and your son in His grace and peace, in Jesus name, Amen.

Thank you for sharing your heart for your son. I join you in bringing him before the Father for healing and protection, asking that the Lord would touch him in body, mind and spirit and surround him with His presence and peace.

Scripture shows us that God cares about the whole person. The apostle John wrote to his friend Gaius that he prayed above all things that he would prosper and be in health even as his soul prospers. That is not presented as a guarantee that every prayer for healing will be answered exactly as we ask, but it does show us something beautiful, that there is a real connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. Proverbs says a joyful heart does good like a medicine, and we are learning more and more how our inner life affects our physical well being. To pray for your son spiritually, mentally and physically is right and biblical, and nurturing his soul through the Word, through prayer, and through nearness to Jesus is part of seeking his overall wholeness.

We also pray with confidence because Jesus has shown His power and compassion to heal. Matthew, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, tells us that when Jesus healed many who were sick and oppressed in the evening at Peter's house, it was a fulfillment of what Isaiah prophesied, surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, and Matthew understands those griefs to include our sicknesses and infirmities. At communion we remember that His body was broken for us. That reminds us that our Lord is not indifferent to physical suffering, and healing, when it comes, is from His hand.

At the same time the Bible keeps us from presuming that God must heal in every case instantly or in the way we expect. Paul prayed three times for the thorn in his flesh to depart and the Lord answered him in another way. There are mysteries in healing that we do not fully understand, why some are healed quickly, why some experience a gradual healing as in the one account where Jesus healed in stages, and why some are healed through the natural processes God has built into our bodies. Any true healing process is from God, whether it is immediate or gradual, whether it comes through prayer alone or through the body's own divinely created ability to recover. He also heals emotionally and mentally, binding up wounds and scars that are not visible.

You asked for protection from harm and danger both seen and unseen, and that is a wise prayer. The physical world we see and touch is real, and the spiritual world is just as real. Jesus has demonstrated authority in every realm, over sickness and infirmity in the physical realm, over the winds and waves in the material realm, and over evil powers in the spiritual realm. He is able to keep your son, and to give peace that guards heart and mind.

So I pray with you now that the Father would lay His hand upon your son, strengthen his body, bring clarity and peace to his mind, and deepen his spiritual life in Christ. I ask that the Lord would guard him from dangers you can see and from those you cannot, that He would make His presence known to him, and that He would fill him with a quiet and steady peace. Whatever your son needs, Jesus is able to become that for him, his healer, his provider, his peace and his righteousness. We trust Him with the outcome and keep seeking Him daily, feeding the spiritual life through prayer and the Scriptures while we care faithfully for the body He has given.

May the Lord hear your prayer, comfort you as you wait on Him, and draw both you and your son closer to Himself. In Jesus' name, amen.
