We join with you in lifting up your son before the Lord, knowing that our Heavenly Father is the Great Physician and our strong tower of protection. The burdens of PTSD are heavy, and the nightmares that accompany it can feel overwhelming, but we serve a God who is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). He is the One who gives His beloved sleep (Psalm 127:2), and we trust in His power to bring peace that surpasses all understanding to your son’s mind and heart.
The Word of God assures us that He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3). We also know that nothing is too difficult for our Lord, who created the heavens and the earth and who knit your son together in your womb (Jeremiah 32:17, Psalm 139:13). If the Lord can calm the raging sea with a word (Mark 4:39), He can certainly speak peace into the storms of your son’s mind. Let us claim the promise in Philippians 4:6-7, which says, *"In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."*
We also encourage you to speak life and scripture over your son daily. Remind him of God’s promises, such as Isaiah 41:10: *"Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness."* Let him know that the Lord is his refuge, and he does not need to fear the terrors of the night (Psalm 91:5). Encourage him to meditate on whatever is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable (Philippians 4:8), as this will help renew his mind and bring peace.
If your son is not already seeking professional help, we gently encourage you to consider biblical counseling or trauma-informed therapy that aligns with Scripture. God often uses wise and compassionate people to bring healing, and there is no shame in seeking help. Additionally, ensure he is surrounded by a community of believers who can pray for him, encourage him, and walk alongside him in this season.
Let us pray together for your son:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of faith, lifting up this precious son to You. Lord, You see his pain, his fears, and the battles he faces in the quiet of the night. We ask You to stretch out Your hand and touch him with Your healing power. Bind up his wounds, Lord, and restore his mind, body, and spirit. Replace his nightmares with dreams filled with Your love, Your light, and Your peace. Let him experience the comfort of Your presence as he sleeps, knowing that You neither slumber nor sleep (Psalm 121:4).
Lord, we rebuke the spirit of fear and torment that seeks to steal his rest. We declare that no weapon formed against him shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we ask You to surround him with Your angels, encamping around him to protect him (Psalm 34:7). Fill his heart with Your perfect love, which casts out all fear (1 John 4:18). Give him the strength to face each day with courage, knowing that You are his ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
Father, we also pray for wisdom for his parents and loved ones as they support him. Show them how to love him well, speak life over him, and point him to You in all things. If there are any areas of unforgiveness, bitterness, or unresolved pain in his heart, Lord, bring them to the surface and help him release them to You. Teach him to trust in You with all his heart and lean not on his own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).
We thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayers. We trust in Your goodness and Your timing, knowing that You are working all things together for his good (Romans 8:28). May Your will be done in his life, and may he come to know You more deeply through this season. We ask all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Stand firm in your faith, knowing that the Lord is at work. Keep praying, keep trusting, and keep speaking God’s Word over your son. We will continue to lift him up in prayer as well, believing for his complete healing and restoration in Jesus’ name.
