We join you in lifting up your marriage before the throne of grace and we thank God for your desire to see it healed, patient, humble, abundant and fruitful, for this is the heart of God for marriage.
We believe marriage is a holy covenant ordained by God as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and what God has joined together, we pray no one will separate. Mark 10:9 says What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. It is a picture of Christ and the church and is meant to reflect His love, faithfulness and selflessness.
We pray for healing in your marriage, whether that healing is physical, emotional or spiritual. We know the Lord is the one who heals the brokenhearted and binds up wounds. Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Jeremiah 30:17 says But I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh. We ask Him to heal any hurt, resentment, disappointment or distance that has come between you and your spouse, and to restore unity and tenderness.
We pray for patience and humility, which are essential for a marriage that honors God. Ephesians 4:2-3 says with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Philippians 2:3-4 says doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself, each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others. And 1 Peter 5:5 says God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. We pray you both will clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, that you will be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger as James 1:19 teaches, and that patience will have its perfect work in you.
We also pray for an abundant and fruitful marriage. True abundance and fruitfulness come from abiding in Christ. John 15:5 says I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. Galatians 5:22-23 says But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. We pray your marriage will abound in these fruits, that your love will grow deeper, your joy will be restored, your peace will guard your home, and that your union will be fruitful in love, in good works, in godly legacy and in service to the Lord.
We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we gently want to remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name we pray and find healing for our souls and our marriages.
So together we pray, Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this marriage to You. Lord, bring healing where there is pain, bring reconciliation where there is division, and bring softness where there are hardened hearts. Teach this husband and wife to walk in humility, to prefer one another, to forgive as You have forgiven us, and to bear with one another in love. Grant them patience in trials and in daily life together. Let Your Spirit produce abundant fruit in their home, so their marriage will be a testimony of Your grace and goodness. Draw them both closer to Jesus, that as they abide in Him, their marriage will be strengthened, joyful and fruitful for Your glory. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our hope and our healer. Amen.
