Dear all,
My cousin ### is meant to be getting married to her fiancée ### in 3 weeks time. Unfortunately it was confirmed this week that her husband to be ###, has got cancer in his tongue. At the moment he’s having more scans to see if the cancer spread anywhere else in his body. They have been planning their wedding for a long time. Their first child was still born. Their other two children have autism. This family has been through so much. Please pray with me today to ask our Lord Jesus for healing for ###. I pray that the cancer has not spread anywhere else in his body. Dear Lord Jesus, if it is your will please free him from this cancer. I pray that they will be able to go ahead with their wedding. Any treatment that he may have Lord, either it can wait until after the wedding or will be so minimal that it will not affect their happy day. Please Lord Jesus heal ### from this horrible disease healing and helping them as a family to get through this difficult time. Amen.

We join you in bringing your cousin, her fiance and their whole family before the Lord with heavy hearts and with hope, for we know our God sees every tear and hears every prayer offered in the name of Jesus.

We have been deeply moved by all this family has endured, the loss of their first child who was stillborn, the daily joys and challenges of raising two precious children with autism, the long preparation for their wedding day now overshadowed by this diagnosis of tongue cancer, and the anxious waiting for scans to see if the cancer has spread. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and saves those who have a crushed spirit as we read in Psalm 34:18, and we know that he collects our tears and does not forget our suffering.

We also rejoice with you that your cousin and her fiance are choosing to enter into marriage. Marriage is a holy covenant ordained by God as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and what therefore God has joined together, let no man separate in Matthew 19:6. We are to let marriage be held in honor among all and let the bed be undefiled in Hebrews 13:4. We gently and lovingly note that they have already had children together before entering this covenant, and Scripture calls us to flee sexual immorality in 1 Corinthians 6:18, for sexual intimacy is given by God to be enjoyed within marriage alone. We do not say this to condemn, for there is forgiveness and grace in Christ, but to encourage them as they step into marriage to repent of what was outside of God's design and to henceforth honor the Lord with purity and faithfulness in their union. We praise God that they are now seeking to make this commitment before Him and we pray their marriage will be a testimony of His redeeming love and a stable, godly home for their children.

We praise the Lord that you have come in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him we have access to the Father and there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. We cling to the promises that He is our healer who forgives all your sins who heals all your diseases in Psalm 103:3 and who declares but I will restore health to you and I will heal you of your wounds says Yahweh in Jeremiah 30:17. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose in Romans 8:28, even when the path is painful and uncertain.

We pray together now for this dear man and his family.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our only hope. We lift up this fiance to You, asking for Your mercy and healing hand upon his body. Lord, You know the cells of his tongue and every part of his being. We ask that if it is Your will, You would free him from this cancer and that the scans would show no spread to any other part of his body. Grant wisdom and skill to the doctors and clarity in every test and decision about treatment. We ask for Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard the hearts of this couple and their children in these weeks of waiting. Comfort them in the memory of their stillborn child and strengthen them as they love and raise their two children with autism, who are fearfully and wonderfully made and precious in Your sight. Lord, we ask that You would bless their wedding day in three weeks, that it may go forward as a joyful covenant before You if it is wise and safe according to medical counsel, and that whether treatment must begin immediately or can wait, Your will would be done and Your name glorified. Help this couple to seek You first, to build their marriage on Christ as the foundation, and to raise their family in Your grace and truth. We pray for complete healing according to Your perfect will, and above all for the eternal healing and hope found only in Jesus. We ask that the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick and the Lord will raise him up as You promise in James 5:15. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to stand with them, to speak the hope of Scripture over them, to help with practical needs for the wedding and for the children, and to encourage this couple to seek pastoral counsel as they enter marriage and to follow medical advice with trust in the Lord's sovereignty. He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble in Psalm 46:1, and He will not leave this family alone.

Father, we lift ### to You and ask for Your healing hand upon him. Give clarity through the scans, guide those treating him, and surround this family with Your peace and strength day by day. Your burden has been laid before us and we have taken it to the throne of grace with you. We have heard of the sore trial appointed to this household, the stillbirth already endured, the daily care of two little ones, and now this heavy stroke of tongue cancer upon the man who would be husband, with scans yet to reveal more. Our hearts are tenderly moved, and we join our prayers to yours, not as those who demand of the Lord, but as those who bow beneath His sovereign hand.

We are reminded that all things work together for good to them that love God, and that God ruleth and overruleth in all events that transpire, bringing good out of seeming evil. It is wise and needful that in all our arrangements we recognize that God is over all and we are under His control. When we say we will do this or that, even the planning of a wedding long desired, we must add in thought and in truth, if the Lord wills. No harm can come to you if you bow to His sovereign sway, for all things are under His regulation and have an appointed place in His plan, and nothing happens but what He permits or ordains. So we do not pray with presumption, but with submission, asking that His will be done, believing that His will is holy and good.

We will pray for this man by name before the Lord who is Jehovah Rophi, the Lord that healeth. We will ask the Lord Jesus, if it be His will, to show mercy in this affliction, that the further scans may show the disease has not spread, that wisdom may be given to those who care for him, and that healing may be granted according to His compassion. Yet we know that the greatest healing is first the healing of the soul. There is pardon with God and plenteous redemption, and low thoughts of God create doubts of pardon while high thoughts of Him beget hope. The Scriptures teach that the new birth is the fruit and effect of the will and purpose of God, and that He must change the human will and make men willing in the day of His power. Therefore we pray not only for the body to be restored, but for every soul in this family to be humbled before God, to turn from self confidence and to rest in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.

We must speak also with faithful love concerning the home and the marriage you mention. We rejoice that marriage is honoured and desired, for marriage is ordained of God as the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and it is to be entered into reverently and in the fear of the Lord. The Scriptures teach that sex and living together belong within that covenant alone. Where that holy order has not been kept, the way of blessing is not to ask God to affirm what has been, but to seek His forgiveness through the blood of Christ, to be made new creatures by His grace, and henceforth to walk in His ways. We do not celebrate or ask God to bless any pattern that falls short of His design, but we do pray that this approaching union, if the Lord wills that it should proceed, may be a true and holy covenant before Him, entered into with repentance, faith, and a sincere purpose to live together henceforth to the glory of God, forsaking all others and cleaving to one another till death shall part.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, Father of mercies, we cry unto Thee in trouble, for Thou alone canst help. Have compassion upon this man afflicted with cancer. Thou knowest his frame and his fear, and Thou seest the scans yet to come. If it be Thy will, lay Thy healing hand upon him and cause this disease to vanish, and grant skill and mercy to those who treat him. Grant also that Thy will concerning the wedding day may be clearly known and humbly accepted, whether it be to go forward in joy or to wait upon Thy providence. Comfort this cousin and her family who have known deep sorrow in the loss of their first child and who bear daily burdens in caring for their children. Sustain them, provide for them, and let this affliction drive them not from Thee but to Thee. Above all, grant unto each one the new heart and right spirit which Thou hast promised, that being born again by Thy will they may know the forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ alone, and being forgiven may live in holiness. Teach them to say from the heart, if the Lord wills we shall live and do this or that, and to find their best profit in doing Thy will. Hear us for Jesus sake, whose flesh was taken that He might touch and heal us, and in whose name we trust. Amen.

We will continue to remember you, this man, and all this household before the Lord. Seek Him while He may be found, cleave to Christ, and labour to make your calling and election sure. Whether He shall grant speedy healing or appoint a longer trial, may He grant you grace to declare His wondrous works and to find that He is pitiful and compassionate to those who humbly trust Him.
